The focus on the bullpen is interesting when we've scored 1,3 and 5 runs in 3 of the 4 games and the pitching had us close in all those games.

I share a lot of the same concerns about the bullpen. But, I’m also comparing it against teams like 2021 and 2013 that had total shutdown guys we could turn the game over to with no questions asked.

Obviously it’s not a strength, but is it really worse than anyone else’s? We did finish with a Top 5 staff in the SEC, with essentially 1.5 weekend starters. The pen had to be at least above average for that to be the case. I feel like with runs up across the board in college baseball, our expectations of what the pen should be capable of might be a little bit unrealistic.

Which is why the regional format is bullsh*t. ULL started a pitcher who threw 29 pitches the day before yesterday & was bringing in relievers with 8 innings all season. And that was just game 4.

I think he was just trying to give those guys a little time in an NCAA tourney game. That coach probably knew they weren't beating us last night after a few innings and if a miracle happened they sure weren't beating us twice.

Exactly. #2 seeds now host. #1 seeds now host twice (except UCLA). And it’s better baseball with weekend pitchers. Having a regional come down to which random guy with 18 innings all year can hold the other team down just a little is a joke.

That might be a lot of boring baseball though. We’d be playing a best 2 of 3 against Lipscomb this year. Well over half of the opening round games would look like our game last night.

You could do all the seedings and host sites the same as now, but, do a 4-team round robin instead of 4-team double elimination. Play each of the other teams once….nobody plays more or less than 3 games. Top 2 teams advance from each regional. Reseed for round of 32, using any remaining original Top 16 seeds to start off the seedings. Play a best 2 of 3 series to get to Super Regionals, then best 2 of 3 to get to Omaha, then CWS. Only drawback to that is it adds another weekend to the postseason, but it doesn’t really add that many more games since nobody’s playing 4-5 games in the opening weekend.

My prediction was met this year. Was a good year regardless of what happens going forward. We hosted and won our Regional. It's all gravy now. I feel no pressure at all. Just lay it out there and what happens.......happens.

Going to need both timely hitting and effective bullpen. In the regional we got the hitting part. We didn't get the effective bullpen part.

You're right, but it's a message board and we need something to discuss.

Tico has to be game 1. They are going to be down key guys and he's been awesome in that lead spot. If you can get a win Game 1 then decisions have to be made- aka I don't think line up totally set for weekend, it'll depend on GM 1 outcome.

My choice in GM 2 would be McPherson. If you see a chance to go for the kill shot and close that game to win series 2-0; I would not fault OAK to bring in Stone for a bullpen roll to help close it out.

Got to concentrate on winning game one.. After you win that first game anything can happen. I think at this point the biggest thing is to prove to ourselves we can beat georgia. I think the confidence will come if we get that first win.
