Love how he was so adamant about “it’s not about the money” but clearly his decision will be based financially and it seems as if the holdup is over, you guessed it, the biggest payday. People also gotta realize that it’s gotta be a red flag for a guy that’s a 50% 3 pt shooter to not get draft guarantees, so clearly he’s been told he has to improve other aspects of his game that just weren’t there. Great shooter, not much else to give.

He doesn’t rebound or pass well. Can’t get his own shot. But people think he is a savior.

Donovan hurley and drew did not want this job and so pope got the job. It's not like pope was the first choice . Takes a special type of person and coach to take on this job
Donovan nor Hurley were offered the job. Nor were others considered. One offer before Pope. And that was Drew. There are many qualified coaches that would love the UK job. They have not been considered. They should be now. But a mitch clone will probably get the AD job and it will continue like it has.

I don’t think he is a savior but I think he will make us better. And the perception of signing, or not signing him Is important to Pope at this point. It will be a bad look if he signs with Arizona. It will be disastrous if he signs with u6.

I agree but combined we have no shot.
Can anyone cite an example of JMI being a problem? I read today that we have recruits to other JMI schools. No idea if that's true. I think it's not or it would have been all over on this site.

Still, I've seen nothing except from matt jones that JMI is a problem. I read some out of context quotes months ago about it. But I would like to see the full context of what was said. Other coaches at UK have no issues with JMI. People say football is different. maybe it is? But volleyball, women's basketball and baseball are thriving. Why is JMI not hurting them? Why is the only coach being affected by JMI the only coach in over his head on every aspect of coaching? And even he says JMI is not a problem.

3 rebounds and 1 assist a game…but yes let’s please get in a bidding war that may eclipse 7 mil
I get your point but it’s a no win situation for Pope and UK. If we don’t spend the fans will complain that we didn’t do what was necessary. If we do spend it, the same group will complain we overpaid.

His job is to put together teams that compete for 30 win seasons. He hasn't come close. He isn't in a "no win" situation, he's been given a huge budget and resources to get the best players in the country and cannot do it.

One can argue he IS in a no-win situation because... he can't win... seemingly at anything related to basketball.

Yeah a very public one with Collins.

Can’t rebound or pass well? True. Can’t get his own shot? Disagree.

My opinion is he is Koby Brea 2.0.

Limited Creation: Lacks elite burst, explosive first-step speed, and advanced ball-handling to consistently create his own shot off the bounce or isolate in crowded spaces.Secondary Playmaking: Not a high-volume distributor; relies more on being a play finisher than a creator for others.Interior Scoring: Can struggle going downhill against physical rim protection, functioning mostly as an outside-in scorer.

Not a great defensive player either.

I think most of that is true, but he regularly can make dribble pull-up mid range jumpers. Brea isn’t the worst comparison but he’s a much better creator than Koby. Koby had very little midrange and was exclusively a three point sniper. Even then, Brea was like Momcilovic in the sense that he could make heavily contested jumpers at high volume. There’s a reason Mom is going to be rated as a consensus top 5 portal player — they aren’t rating him that highly out of kindness. He’s a very, very good player.

What is his budget next season?
