Pretty sure we were leading in this a few years ago.

I have no idea the merits of the methodology and don't put a lot of stock in it. But if others are manipulating the data we should be as well. Perception matters.

How the heck would they know? Anyone here ever been asked? Seems really low to me for all schools.
Uhh... you do pay taxes every year... that you're supposed to report the AGI. This can be cross referenced to public record of degrees achieved. This is a fairly simple data analysis easily created with access to the right data sets.

Those numbers tell me that there are a lot of degrees that have very low earning potential. Surprised that MUW's education doesn't offset nursing more. Also interesting that William Carey's performing arts degrees must be seriously offsetting their healthcare graduates.

The DOE has access to tax returns?

I am curious to see where colleges are in the next five years. We had senior Sunday a few weeks back at church and high rate are going trades path. It is higher than it has ever been.

I am guessing a big chunk of this is just ole miss’s larger out of state population moving back home to work. It wouldn’t be hard to make 7k more a year in a higher COLA and being worse off.

The pendulum will swing in the other direction - there will eventually be a glut of tradesmen. That being said, AI may take a technical job but it isnt going to show up at your house to fix your plumbing issues.

Here is how/where the data is collected...its school reported.

These data are based on school-reported information about students’ program of completion. The U.S. Department of Education cannot fully confirm the completeness of these reported data for this school.

Looks like that's equivalent to about 54,000 today.

It sure felt like a lot more back then. I rented a 1 br apt on McDowell Rd for $250/mo. Car note was $180, no cell phone, no satellite tv. Had cable and a landline. Fun times......fun times....

I hear you man. It sure went a lot farther when there was less nonsense to spend it on and the suits weren't quite as good at picking your pockets.

Good lord, my first job out of State in 1993 at Sanderson Farms paid $23,500. Salaried.
Huh. Adjusted for inflation, that equals almost exactly what I made right out of college in '04.

We were stretched crazy thin our first couple years out of undergrad, but that was mostly because I was the only one working full time while my wife was in law school. Older used cars, cabin weekend vacations, shitty rental that was full of gifted family furniture...that time in life was both simpler and more complex than now.

Its amazing how much more purchasing power a 2 income household has. Obvious, but still interesting to see, especially at the lower end.

I thought Trump nuked the Dept of Education
The data is probably pre-Trump. Remember these salaries are median not average, a big difference. MSU engineers have the highest undergrad entry salaries at low six figures. Nursing salaries are skyhigh because of shortages so they are somewhat inflated. Take this "data" with a grain of salt.

Thank you for bringing the facts again, Glfr.

These numbers are total BULL sh it! This is what the universities report based on the 20-30 kids who feel good enough about their salaries to report them. I've tracked these in the past working on behalf of several different universities.

Not saying whether they are higher - or much much lower - but the data is most assuredly incomplete.

How to read this list for the MS schools:

1) Best private school in Mississippi - graduates generally have a lot of business connections already when they hit the job market. Many go out of state for higher starting salaries in higher COL areas.

2) Public school with by far the largest out-of-state enrollment. Most graduates all go back out of state with higher costs of living, thus higher starting salaries. Additional bump from law school and med school.

3) Good nursing school, not good in much else. Low enrollment so average is easily offset by the best program.

4) Good engineering / architecture school, not good in anything else. High enrollment, no lucrative grad school programs, more difficult for the top programs to offset the bad ones.

5 ~ 15) Generally garbage across the board.
