Clutch hit finally by Judge. That win was extremely important for the Yankees.
Weathers looks like a keeper. A damn shame the Bronx Bombers haven't scored a single run in half of his starts.

What were the odds ?
Volpe with the big hit in the ninth....Bednar with the save.
Yanks win 4-3.

Volpe showing some heart and making himself valuable to the team with his bat. I know the plan is to get him some experience around the diamond to make him more versatile. Could replace Jazz at the end of the season maybe?

They will need to ride the starting pitching with everything else being so inconsistent.

Ben Rice is remarkable.

These morons have been preaching contact velo and launch angle for over a decade. How much longer until they realize it's a dumb idea that doesn't work?
You know what is funny, you see all the video's from Bonds, ARod, Gywnn, Will Clarke, Thomas, old school ones from Mays, Williams, Aaron, all talking of hitting down, making contact, etc...
And the one player I always see that says to tell your kids to launch is Donaldson...

If I had a kid playing youth ball today- I wonder what I would be teaching them. It also baffles my mind when some players and analytics fans- say a K is just an out. Meanwhile- how many soft hit grounders find their way past players or cause errors. There is Zero good that can happen with a K

Starting rotation has been phenomenal.

But they better grab bullpen arms before the trade deadline.

Need another back-end bullpen arm. However in the playoffs they will only need 4 starters (if healthy Cole, Schlittler, Fried, Rodan). Weathers has the stuff to be a lefty weapon out of the pen....question will be if he has the mental makeup as a high leverage reliever.

Down and hard. Make them make the play. Unfortunately, the major leaguers make the play a lot!
saw a video recently- forget who it was but a historical hitter- they showed why leveling the bat to the ball compared to launch angle makes so much more sense. that upward launch angle swing only allows one single moment of bat and ball making solid contact. No room for error. Level the bat to the ball - and even if you miss by a little- it can still have a positive outcome.

None of that explains why Judge is hitting .250 this year while he was hitting .350 at this point last year.

Ehhh- it happens in baseball and he can easily end up .290 it would also seem like a slip if he "only" ends up with 45 or so HR and 100 RBI.

So- Let's say he does end up .250/48/100 many would call it a slip and many would call it a career year for 95% of baseball. The only worry, ever, for Judge- is if a wall gets in his way.

And of course with Judge you have to factor in all of his contributions....like that perfect throw he made from right field the other day on the fly to throw out the runner at home in a 0-0 game. A momentum changer for sure.

Judge deserves better from the Yankees. He got a very fair contract from them, but they have failed him by not building enough around him during his peak years. His decline will probably be pretty gradual I'm guessing. Could this be the start? Who knows. It's amazing to think that this year is already year 4 of his 9 year contract. Seems like it just happened.

Yankees score 13 runs in one inning Sunday....and do absolutely nothing in every other inning.
Ben Rice sure looks like the most dangerous hitter in their lineup.
What's wrong with Judge ?
BTW, another fine start from Will Warren. But for a fly ball to center that was lost in the sun he would have given up zero runs yesterday. He has to remain in the rotation.

Good problem to have, unless you're Gil.

Weathers might be a big piece of a trade for a fire balling closer and put Bednar to the 8th inning.
Someone suggested the other day that when Fried comes back they're gonna move Weathers to the pen and bring up Carlos Lagrange and his 100 mph fastball and put him in the pen as well.
Btw, I wonder what they're gonna do when Stanton is ready to play. They'd be crazy to move Goldschmidt or Rice out of the lineup.

They showed up for one inning and then went home. LOL!

My only concern is that Lagrange has erratic control. Actually, he'll fit in perfectly!

Doval continues to be a freaking disaster.

His days in a Yankee uniform are numbered.
But he threw one pitch at 103 mph...was consistently at 100.
I kid. I've wondered all season what he's still doing on this team.
Anyway this game was lost because Schlittler didn't have his usual dominant stuff and the defense and the bats didn't give him much help. Except for Goldschmidt.
Gotta bounce back tomorrow vs. Cleveland's best starter.

And , of course, we get a subpar effort from Cole.

The ineptitude of the two catchers to contribute ANYTHING on offense is beyond ridiculous.

How is it possible for Cashman to fail to address the issue?

Saw something yesterday that indicates he's looking into it. Called the Pods about Freddy Fermin.
He's hitting .125

AI says that the average batting average for the top 32 catchers in baseball is .257. So we need to shoot for something like that without the position becoming poor calling games.

No reason to bother with the Yanks anymore. Or at least until Judge returns.
You do you. I can't be like that.
Schlittler came through big today. And Bellinger with a clutch home run in the bottom of the 8th that seemed to open the floodgates. They really needed this win.
