A decade-long lurker here on the forum, but what the heck. 47, wife (no pics), son, daughter, and live in Western Wisconsin. I grew up in this area, but wrestled high school in Minnesota. Went to state a few times in the late 90's, ended up wrestling for UWL for 4 years. We were tough in D3 (still are), even beating the Badgers my freshman year. Won a couple of national dual titles, but never could get that natty away from Augsburg or Wartburg.

I've coached wrestling since I left college at various levels, and I still have an intense love for the sport. My son was a fairly successful wrestler in WI and now is carrying on the family tradition of wrestling in college. All in all, we've had 11 members of my family wrestle in college, so get-togethers are always a lot of fun.

I became a Hawkeye fan in the mid 90's. My mom let me stay up late for some reason on a weeknight, and I caught a replay of IPTV on our local cable channel, and it was a Hawks dual. I know it's been discussed on the board, so I will say it, but the one where Aure (RIP) got dq'd out. Through a twist of fate later in life, I became friends with Aaron and our sons wrestled together at club. Funny how wrestling works that way. Anyway, that dual got me hooked on Hawks wrestling, and I've been a huge fan ever since, even been down to Carver a few times.

I personally love to trap anything with fur, hunt everything, and fish as much as possible. Once my career is finished up, I will retreat to the fur shed full time:)

The rumors are that guys with fur sheds have a special affinity for beaver. Is that true? Also i see Gobblin as one of those guys.

In Cedar Rapids, our Phys. Ed teachers started showing us wrestling "positions" in the third grade back in 1959. (At 7-8 years old, some girls will kick your butt.:)) Wrestled through high school. Some of my coaches are listed on the walls in Stillwater, so it wasn't their fault that I was barely average, unlike the state champs on some of my high school teams.
I went to Ia. St. for two years, hated it and transferred out, but I did some fun play-by-play for campus radio of some of the wrestling meets while I was there in the early 70s. I lived and worked in Iowa City for five years in the late 70s, and went to many meets when Gable was still developing the team. I stopped following so much in the 80s and 90s when I moved away for more school and work, but picked it up again when I got homesick some thirty years ago.

Crazy Boston fans have cured me of caring about pro sports long ago, but I still follow the Hawks in several sports, and college wresting anywhere. Been married 38 years now, and retirement lets me hit the gym 5 days a week, but old father time caught up to some of my joints.
There's always something new to learn, and I still learn from each of you.

True, but alot of variation in whether fur shed guys like blonde, red, brown, or black beaver. Preferences sometimes vary based on the going prices. Also, some like long haired pelts, some prefer sheared beaver.

I grew up in Colorado and wrestled at NYU (I went for film school, not the wrestling program). At 24 I was still dabbling in freestyle tournaments, and my plan was to wrestle one more time--at freestyle nationals--then retire from wrestling and focus on a career. But I lost 2 in a row, 15-0 and 15-0, and it made me feel like a big part of my identity had been kind of a joke. So instead of retiring, I quit my job, moved to Iowa and dedicated myself to placing at nationals. I competed for the Hawkeye Wrestling Club from 1987-91, placing 8th in 90 & 91. Going to Iowa was the smartest stupid thing I ever did. (Even my mom tried to talk me out of it--she felt I was refusing to grow up.) I have lived in NYC since '95. I have two grown kids (28 & 25) from my first marriage, and a 4-year-old son from my current marriage. I'm sure my mom thinks I am still refusing to grow up, but she likes having the extra grandkid. No pics, but my wife is beautiful & smart & kind, and I am blessed to have a second chance at love and fatherhood at age 63. Always a Hawk fan, but increasingly irritated at the state of the program.

I always liked driving by the ol' Hannibal high school. Liked how it looked. I went to MIssouri Valley for a year. What year did their wrestling program start? They didn't have one when I was there. I wrestled once there in an inter-frat meet. It was fun.
They brought the program back in 1991, I was there from 91-96. I had a great experience at Valley during those years. And I'm biased but I too always thought Hannibal HS had a good look to it.

High school wrestling was some of my best times. Good, not great wrestler. Made it to state or is it states in Iowa my senior year and went 1-2. Arizona and ASU sent a letter of their interest, I think they were just starting to put focus in wrestling and Iowa hs was the hotbed in the 70s for recruiting. Ultimately decided not to wrestle anymore and went to South Dakota for college.

Retired RN and made South Dakota home, boring and less people which I love. And of course it is home to the Dakota Destroyer. His semis comeback in Carver in 95 to reach the finals was one of the best matches I ever saw.

Walked up to Dan Gable at national duals in Nebraska while everyone was warming up. Small crowd there and seemed laid back but I got a look from him that scared me good like don't come and inch closer. I nervously asked if he would sign my program, he smiled and did, I was relieved to say the least.

Former season tix holder with better half but the 6 hour drives in winter we gave them up. Just stream it all from home now. Go Hawks.

Very well, where do I begin? My father was a relentlessly self-improving boulangerie owner from Belgium with low grade narcolepsy and a penchant for buggery. My mother was a fifteen year old French prostitute named Chloe with webbed feet. My father would womanize, he would drink, he would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Some times he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy, the sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. My childhood was typical, summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When I was insolent I was placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds, pretty standard really. At the age of 12 I received my first scribe. At the age of fourteen, a Zoroastrian named Vilma ritualistically shaved my testicles. There really is nothing like a shorn scrotum, it's breathtaking, I suggest you try it.
I gave you a like even though someone else used that previously. I used it when I first started posting on BWI and someone asked me a serious question about it.

The race-baiting and wondering if your white self once owned your black half. That cracks me up. But history shows it could be your black half could have actually owned your black half as well. Can't assume anything there Double Stuff.
Hold on there, of this I am certain! I found the first graves of my ancestors on the backend slave graves behind the Belvedere graveyard outside of Savannah, GA. Remember, I spent a number of years down in South Georgia, discovering my roots and tracing the paths of my ancestors. Honestly, had it not been for rediscovering wrestling I’m pretty sure I was on a path of Black Militancy. I almost joined the black panthers down there. They got bent outta shape when I wanted 1/2 my beret to be white……

My family’s plantation is in Missouri. No way they could have owned them!!!

Grew up in Sheldon. Wrestled through my jr year. The coach told me I could come out, but he wouldn’t wrestle me my senior season. So, that was the end of my wrestling career. Later, TnT’s mom told me that her boys enjoyed watching me compete. (They were younger than me.) That might have been the highlight of wrestling memories to be honest.

I graduated from UNI with degrees in Marketing Management and Spanish. Developing a coffee roastery from conception of idea to successful business might have been the highlight of my business experiences. Working in the wine industry would be another.

I was married for 23 years. We moved to Oregon to get divorced, apparently. She’s back in Iowa, I’m still in Oregon.

I work a social services position by day and play funky/psychedelic/soul music in a local band now. (Drums/percussion.) We’ve all been friends/bandmates for years. No band drama to speak of…

Go Hawks!

1st Post ever. Grew up in Rock Valley (NW) Iowa and the schools I went to did not have wrestling. I did have close friends who wrestled for Rock Valley and their meets were a lot of fun to go to. Rock Valley and West Lyon were intense meets from what I remember. Joined the National Guard in Sheldon when I was in college (97) and did that for 20 years. Started in Federal Law Enforcement in 07 in South Dakota and have now been in Rochester MN for the past 8 years. Will have my 20 years done and will likely do something else in about 6 months. Watched the Hawks on IPTV growing up and have been following them closely the past 10 years. Make it to a meet or 2 each year. Went to the ISU meet last year which was a bit of a downer but still have a lot of respect for them and what they have all accomplished. College wrestling at that level is no joke. My wife (no pics) makes fun of me bc I can't sit still watching wrestling on tv but I love it. I will support the Hawks through the good and bad. They work so hard to get to where they are at they deserve our support.
