Curious if anyone has been there and what you thought of it.

I like the idea of no cars and only bikes and horses. from what i gather seems like a family friendly place with interesting noncommercial things to do. Lilac Festival, the fudge festival both seem like good times to visit.

Thoughts?

My girlfriend used to go every summer growing up in Michigan and loved it. It's been a while but I'd guess it's petty cool and worth a visit. I've checked it out on google maps before and hope to go some day if up that way.

I went to Mackinac about ten years ago, for five days. No motor vehicles except emergency stuff like fire engines. I took a great buggy ride around the island, pulled by magnificent draft horses. I've always loved those animals, so huge and powerful. Mostly we just ate and walked. The food is five-star and plentiful. The houses are fascinating to see, all these 19th-century mansions so immaculately kept up, with beautiful gardens. Very peaceful and relaxing. Great verandas to sit and talk and enjoy the scenery.

Never have been but Door County, Wisconsin might be the best hidden gem in the US. Spent many days out on the water up there, right off of Washington Island you can see 40 feet down the water is so clear
Door County is amazing. I lived in Madison for about 6.5 years in my twenties and my wife and I would drive up to Door County every year, usually in late summer/early fall. Every town feels like you're in a quaint NE fishing village. Absolutely loved it and gutted that I moved away.

I tell everyone that they need to visit Door County and the UP. You’re absolutely right about it feeling like New England. Have you been to Port Washington? It’s closer to Sheboygan/Milwaukee but it has that New England feel as well. Beautiful places up there that a lot of people don’t know about.
