Laugh all you want, I don’t blame you. But this particular game was just straight bad luck. Seth Smith pulled his hamstring and ended up at 3rd on a play he would’ve easily scored on. No run scored, and we lost our lead off hitter and shortstop.
I don’t think State fans are laughing at Southern. I think they are laughing at the Committee.
USM had a good season, but just didn’t have enough pitching to fall into the losers bracket.
State has their hands full tonight. They have to hit, pitch and defend better than they have against the best SEC teams to win. A bunch of walks and errors and UC will run our catcher to death!

If the USM AD is not on the committee, they are seeded 15-18. They should have been a borderline host.
Stricklin & Alford being on the committee also helped MSU solidify a host position.
The NCAA Baseball Selection Committee is way too obvious with the members assisting their constituents.

Nope! I’m laughing my a$$ off at Mississippi Southern.
They went two and ‘que. Not having enough pitching was not their problem.
USM's RPI lived off of midweek wins against good teams but the issue is when you are matching up #4 pitchers in the rotation, that is not a good barometer of things. Midweek games maybe should be weighted less in the RPI formula, I don't know, but midweek wins aren't the same as winning on the weekend when everyone is pitching their frontline guys.
One day maybe everyone will realize that winning a Tuesday night game against a SEC and then doing well in that conference doesn’t mean you need to be a high host seed.
Also for all their crying about having a hard regional, the 3 seed at our regional took two of three from them.

I’m kind of laughing at them. But because of their ridiculously high seed. Generally I hope they do well. It’s good for Mississippi baseball and they will never be a threat to us as long as we take care of our own business, which has been a problem for us for much of the last 35 years.
They have a really good program and had a great year but they were getting pushed as a national seed even by the D1 guys. Just thought that was a bit over the top.
While we're all having a tee-hee at USM, Ole Miss is cruising past Nebraska, up 6-1 late. They are paired with the Auburn Regional. They could easily sneak into Omaha.
If Auburn doesn't come back and win that regional then there is little doubt OM will be in Omaha.

USM has hosted seven Regionals and Super Regionals in their history and lost six of them. Weirdly the only one they won was the time LSU came to Hattiesburg as the 2 seed… but they then proceeded to not score a single run in the Super that followed.
College baseball writers try so hard to appeal to so many people they are afraid to be honest especially when it comes to G5 schools
They’ll keep hosing every so often because Ostrander is a good coach and they are a good regular season program. But at this point just assume if they host they’re not winning the regional.
If I was Selmon, I would not play USM in any sport at Hattiesburg. If they want to play us, they can come to Starkville. MSU has propped up their University and Athletic Department far too long
This weekend should make Oz rethink the conference tournament. Playing out of the losers bracket killed the pitching for the weekend.
I think their resume was pretty borderline. And history shows that a gaudy Sunbelt resume is very prone to being exposed in a regional.
Agree. Tell their AD exactly like that and say we will revisit that position after they win a June game in Omaha.
Somebody needs to purge them from this tournament soonly.
meh i don't hate it for them by any means but good teams lose regionals all the time.
The two best teams in the Sun Belt both went 0-2. Not gonna help that league in seeding conversations moving forward.
