Agree with that but if announced after school out then the coach is scrambled to reach rising freshman and will need all players in summer workouts and yes this could affect numbers if the community does not get a coach they can support it could be good Nash County schools and the purple and gold according to several supporters
It's not basketball, they could care less...

Surely they are close to making a decision, because I agree, the longer this goes, it could mean some other local teams could benefit from some of the returning talent.

I cannot believe the statement just made by SWE admins is they are looking at only successful coaches with proven records. That the the biggest lie told by Dr. Langley in his lifetime. All the people being interviewed are ex JV or varsity assistants that have been fired and or replaced due to reasons I want discuss but a coach since 2012! Has been head Jv or assistant head coach including his last five years at Wilson Hunt as assistant head coach offensive coordinator and strength coach his record speaks for itself
See attached also this coach had 15 letters of recommendation from college coaches to varsity head coaches and other people such as administration at schools he worked. This coach was not even given an interview or calls returned from the AD who we all know wants football to fail at SWE. Other qualified coaches are also not getting an interview. The coach I am talking about played for SWE until his senior year when he decided to go to THS under duress because he had been isolated from the team and was basically forced to THS.by the coach at that time due to differences between myself and him over game planning and coverages it is a shame that 17 years later grown adults who are surpose to be in authority position still are holding grudges. This coach felt he could unify the SWE community and explayers that has transferred the kids to other programs and make the program a success and was supported by the community is not even being considered like other explayers are not
The sad part will come next as you hear a large vacuum sound as top players will leave for the purple and gold or for Nash county schools. This is a sad day and Coach Tillman is rolling over in his grave. If anyone has another option on this matter I welcome it but this is not making any sense to me.

Sounds like a legend in his own mind.

I was told by Langley tonight that they hoped to have named the new coach by the time they go to camp..

If swe doesn't get the right coach it honestly wouldn't shock me if some players transferred.

SWE can't get a coach to commit to program due to coaches from other countries make more money and can't afford the pay cut and players already making transfers Facebook looking like ESPN and the transfer portal in HS sports

Think you meant to say counties but yea that can be an issue. Craven County BOE is in such a debt from past administrations ineptitude that I believe it played a factor in our search. Hopefully SWE can get someone that can calm the waters. I like playing them. I think it’s a good rivalry in our conference.

There is a ton of facebook pages that highlights transfers now, celebrates it in a way, so I am not surprised to hear kids are advertising that they are transferring.

I think WC's location to the beach alone makes it appealing, not to mention y'all are traditionally a solid program. And getting someone from the outside to move to Edgecombe county is difficult considering the pay. Tarboro not included because any coach would have to consider taking the helm of an established powerhouse. Even though Craddocks first three years weren't great he turned it around with the help of some damn good players. But the pay for teachers and coaches is subpar compared to South Carolina and Virginia, maybe even Tennessee, and Alot of the best coaches in NC pack up and leave. And I can't blame them, you work for money after all is said and done. The last staff, didn't bring back volunteer coaches, like Glenn Warren. A man that gave Alot of money to athletics at SWE. He would buy kids cleats and other things they may not have been able to get otherwise. Glenn has even bought the baseball team new uniforms out of his pocket. Now his two grandsons just won a state championship in baseball at Faith Christian. If Glenn is still on staff, those two boys would be at SW, and we very well could have won the state championship is baseball this year. But the school hasn't been passionate about trying to win big in football after the Cobb crew left. Hell, the weight room wasn't updated from the 80's under Tillman until Cobb came. Y'all hear 98 and myself every year say, "well, third round, time for us to exit". That's good enough for the school and always has been. Reidsville, Tarboro and a few others, that will get you asked to leave.

Great post! You're right, Mr. Warren gave a ton to the program. I've talked with several folks close to the Cougar program, and they all say the exact thing you're saying.

Just lost a top receiver today. Transfered to South Central. Along with his sister, who led the state in steals per game on the hardwood. I imagine this is the first domino. Hard to be committed to a team with no coach.

I agree. The longer it takes to hire the head coach, the more kids that will leave.

Any other position than wide receiver and his grandmother would have a Princeville address.

That's been my thought from the beginning. The kids that are serious about football are going to be hesitant to commit to a program that doesn't have a head man. Just my thoughts though!

Just like the southwest baseball team that always seems to have a couple kids that have to drive past Tarboro high every morning on their way to Pinetops.

Nice update! Hopefully a hire can be made soon before more kinds announce that they will be transferring out.
That sounds very intriguing. I like Northerns offense. But love that defense better. I'de get behind that. We'll be fine offensively..We.need defense...

I've heard Ward former Beddingfield Coach and an assistant from Northern Nash are interested and could be front runners.
There's nothing official but, the kids have been told it will be a coach from Nash County

Probably a first time head coach again. We should be able to get any experienced coach we want. But ECPS doesn't believe in spending money. We'll always be a stepping stone area, for coaches and teachers.

It's my understanding that Coach Davis from Northern interviewed, and the offer was a $7000 pay cut. Not sure if he was officially offered, but he wasn't gonna take that either way.

I've heard also, that 6 or 7 teachers are leaving and they weren't planning on replacing them, just combining classes.

It is a shame what is happening with transfers all over high school sports. Gone are the days of sticking it out and playing in the area you grew up in with those you grew up with.

What is just as bad is all of the attention we give to 15-18 year old kids that move, sometimes multiple times. Transfers are treated the same as a high school senior committing to a four year university. Now, there are even "podcasts" where a kid is paraded out, sat on a couch and is given a forum for a Lebron type of decision announcement, not to mention the mentioned Facebook, X and Instagram attention.

Makes one wonder how in the world high school athletes in the past were noticed, recruited and then signed to a college or university team and didn't transfer.

Yes, I am old and long for a simpler time. Yes, I know those days are gone. Its a shame what high school and college sports has become.

We had pride in representing our communities and our families. I encourage kids all the time to take part in high school sports. It’s the greatest years of their lives. They need to know that and build these memories. Once it’s over they spend the rest of their lives working to pay bills.
