Trae seems like the real deal. I sure hope we can keep him. But my fear is that if we have a bad season this year, going 5-7 let’s say, then the knives will be out for Rhule and the whole fanbase will be in an uproar. Do we keep Trae in such a scenario? Do we keep many of the other recruits in the 2027 class?
We really, really need to have a solid season this year. I don’t think we will which is why I am pessimistic for our future. But in order to keep Trae and the rest of this class, it is a must win year.

We're going to have a great year, and Trae will walk into an incredible situation as a true freshman.. but I don't think we throw him to the wolves his first year do we?

Rhule sold out for Raiola so he had to start him, LaTeff will be experience Junior would be the logical choice starting the season.

Which can Tre be patient and wait his turn would be the bigger guestion.

Yeah, I'm not sure.. I kind of have DK penciled in as the backup this year, I guess it sort of depends on what DK or LaTeef do in the backup role and how things unfold this year. if nobody emerges, then I might look for a stop gap. Edit: I really dislike the idea of putting LaTeef in and losing multiple games in a row again.. that identity has to shift permanently.

I’m done worrying about QBs who haven’t enrolled in classes yet. Frankly, I wouldn’t mind seeing what Kaelin can do. I believe he very well could be better than Raiola due to his better mobility.

Kaelin won the Elite 11 accuracy contest. I believe his arm strength is more than adequate for a P4 QB. The ability to quickly process information and make good decisions is probably more important than arm strength. Even if he isn’t a starter, he improves our QB room.
Thanks! I had forgotten how well he had done in the elite 11

Lateef's saving grace was he was mobile and can throw downfield with better accuracy than DR. But if the spring game is anything to go off of, Lateef did not do great at all. He's probably hitting the portal if he's not second string.

Lateef had one great game. The others he looked like a freshman but some of that was O line injuries. Utah’s defense abused him. Very small sample size. Spring game was a mish mosh of players that makes it tough to gauge much from. You’re in a series then you’re out then back in with a different bunch of guys. Colandrea has serious wheels. QB1. DK and Lateef will battle it out to be the backup but which one goes in a game could be situational. I get why Dana says our QB room is better.

seriously dingle that’s a no-brainer compared to last year team.

he will get another shot, but he really needs to grow into his adult body first.. his first game was amazing, so he's set a high bar for himself.. that's his only competition really.. His story isn't over yet, and I doubt he leaves.

Is your thinking emoji supposed to mean something I'm not picking up on? Seems like great news to me.
Wide-ranging talk as the Elite 11 heats up Friday night:

"Yet questions about the Buckeyes’ interest in Taylor persist because, well, the Buckeyes keep showing interest in Taylor.
“(Ohio State’s) thing is: ‘We really want you here,’” J.R. Taylor said. “Trae has been really adamant that, ‘I’m not going to a school with two quarterbacks.’ We said that from Day 1. If there are two, we’re not coming for certain reasons."

From the OP article, it seems like he's open to bidding from 1 quarterback schools, the only reason he's not open to Ohio State is because they have 2 QBs.

Gotcha. And I supposed we'd be remiss as keyboard warriors who are never wrong if we didn't mention the obvious "afraid of competition" sub-plot to all of this? Not to mention the fact that we went down that road with DR once already and it didn't work.

This is different though. Trae has been committed for a long time and has been peer recruiting his butt off the whole time. He's clearly actively trying to help build a TEAM. Raiola did non of that as he was a last second flip. All he seemed to care about was whatever was best for him (and half his family).

I agree completely. This reminds me of Callahan's last year when we had a great class going and then the season flopped, Cally got fired and all the recruits bounced.

If I were a betting man I'd bet their is more chance than not of that happening.

Hope I'm wrong tho...

If he is the elite 11 MVP then why is he not a 5 🌟
Not officially....yet but he more than likely will be the mvp. If rivals and 247 don't give him his 5th * then we know the system is rigged. He beat their 5*s and their #1 overalls.

The 1 thing I don't like about 7 on 7 competition is 70% of the passes aren't real life situation because they aren't throwing over linemen

I mean, I don't know if the system is "rigged" but it is not like it is some math formula that can be proved correct.

It is literally just a made up ranking system. Just like how you might have ranked your favorite video games or beers or girls. It is just a fake system.

For instance, I can say that he is a 10 star recruit.

Exactly what will probably happen. He has previously stated how he’s coming to NU no matter what. The “someone has to come take me from Nebraska” is a step down from that and it is him leaving the door open to going elsewhere imo. Before anyone talks about him moving here remember Raiola moved to GA and didn’t go there…

The chance of Rhule being fired after this year is very small.

You might right but we were blown out in our last three games by two teams with interim coaches, and our rival at home. We can blame it on injuries to our QB, but said qb is gone and was replaced with a guy from a lower conference with a 1 to 1 TD/INT ratio. We also lost 70% of our offensive production to the NFL. The dline was one of the worst in college football last year, and we brought in new coaches from a lower conference, and some transfers from said team. So we basically moved towards the mountain west in the off-season.

Ask youself. What would a desperate head coach on his last leg do when he loses his 5 star qb, and to has hire a new DC, dline coaches, ST coaches, and a new oline coach? Would he go out and convince POWER 4 coaches and players to come coach and play at NU? Of course not. He would go get mediocre to somewhat successful coaches and players from the mountain west. Which is what he did, outside of Wade..who seems like a really good hire.
