Technically, he said that when the playoff rankings come out in 2026,we plan on watching to see where we are in the rankings. He never guaranteed a playoff birth.
I guess that could be said for every team that plays football on the FBS level.

Technically he said
"“We’re not there right now, but I do know next year at this time, we’re going to be sitting here on this Tuesday night watching the playoff rankings to see where we are in the ranking show,"

To be clear he said playoff rankings, which is different from just rankings. But why quibble.

They don't do a rankings show. They do a CFP Playoff Ranking Show. It gives the committee's full Top 25.

Yep, what we may see is we are not in the rankings and he would still be right.

I sure did think someone with Harvard in their screen name would be better at reading. Hmm...
About fifty percent of the habitual posters on here are only interested in being little p1ssants; kind of like those that claimed at every opportunity that Trump advocated drinking bleach. Just unneccesarily juvenile. Thankfully the rest of us are looking forward to how the season plays out and will take it from there. Let's go.

NIL has ruined college sports. For USC and the future…anything above a break-even season…is a good year.

Dang puppy, you whine so much about the posters on this board that hurt your feelings.

Did this board really break your brain that badly? Or were you like this before?

I truly hope it was the board. I would love to think i had a part in turning you i to this pile of emotional mush. :)

I'm ready for the current system to collapse so we can get on with a new model of actual "college" sports. I don't think it is going to be long. Far too many schools are losing millions every year in their sports programs. When the majority of FBS schools throw up their hands and give up on this NIL silliness, change will come.

If a CFP Championship becomes meaningless under this NIL system things can change but the question is how can this be accomplished?

The problem is, college football has become CFP or bust. The regular season rivalry games and other "big games" mean very little now if a team doesn't make the CFP.

The CFP is the ONLY thing that matters now. NIL spending has gone insane chasing a spot in the CFP. Expanding the CFP is nothing more than DEI/Affirmative Action for college football. The CFP is opening up more spots for teams that don't deserve to be in the playoff so they can feel better and push their fans for more money since they "were in the playoff last year, and if we had a few more top players we could have won it all".

It truly is a situation where everyone involved, from coaches and players to commissioners and ADs to networks and advertising are sucking every single drop of juice that they can and expanding this and demanding that to the point that it's becoming a house of cards that is going to collapse under its own weight.

Ironically, his own words could eventually be used against him.

He essentially guaranteed we'd be in the CFP hunt. If we're not, then we fell short by his own estimation.

If Ray was still AD, I bet Mack Brown would be on the list if he showed any interest. And I know in all seriousness that Brown is retired and would never want to coach in the SEC anyway but I bet would Ray would give him an interview. Anyway-all hypothetical.

Either way, Beamer, at 49 years old, is financially set for life. If fired after this season, he could never work another day in his life and live like a prince.
