Every year, the Iowa women’s basketball team has a golf outing to raise funds to finance their overseas basketball trip. The recent ruling allowing trips to be taken yearly, as opposed to every 4 yrs, has increased the need to raise funds to ensure these trips take place. The trips are a great recruiting tool, promote team bonding and unity, and now will open more doors for exposure to foreign players. The golf outing and auction are the sole source for financing these trips.

My aunt, a former player, is part of the committee for the golf outing and is seeking donations to support these team trips. They are looking for donations from individuals or companies that can be auctioned off, or monetary donations to directly support the trip.

Items for auction can include gift cards for restaurants, hotels, golf for 4 or other similar items, which can be combined with others in the area as well as with other donated items of value. Cash donations of any amount are also welcomed.

Thank you for any support you may give and feel free to contact Brenda Kral at the women’s basketball office with any questions or donations.

Go Hawks!

Nobody pays for my overseas trips. After reading about CC paying for a late night booze cruise, I'm less inclined to donate. In addition some of these young ladies are making big time NIL dollars.
No kidding. Its not like their going to sell candy bars or trash bags to raise the funds.

I assume Hawkangler feels the same regarding the men’s team.

A suggestion, if you will. Three years ago, I believe, the team went to Split, Croatia ( a beautiful location). Why not have the marketing department for women's basketball advertise a trip to?????? destination and advertise this as a trip for fans to come along. It could be a charter package with air and lodging, possibly at the same hotel the team is staying at. The purchase price might include an additional one thousand dollars ( or a larger fee which might allow for more contact with the players) which would go to the WBB program. The trip could include one banquet where fans and Iowa players all come together, and perhaps an itinerary which might include fans more time to meet and interact with the coaches and players. Wisconsin football used to play Hawaii in Hawaii and some five to ten thousand Wisky fans followed their team. The fifty to seventy year old crowd of Iowa fans and even younger parents who might bring along their children might find this appealing. When Iowa played in Mexico people traveled. With clever marketing, the WBB could make 100,000 to 150,000 thousand dollars from this and simultaneously foster even more good will and family culture. Not that 150,000 goes a long way but all dollars help the program.

I would be all in for a trip to Sweden, beautiful country and great people. Barcelona is another great city. Prague is my favorite European city.

The football team use to take a Hawkeye cruise which paid for the coaches, wives and admin. on the trip. I was vacationing in St. Thomas for two weeks when the ship stopped there years ago. Met Reese Morgan on the beach. Great guy.

Yes, Prague is definitely a hidden gem in Europe and comparatively inexpensive by European standards. my entire family would go for something like this.

No offense to anyone working to make a trip happen, but asking for donations for people already making 6 figures to go overseas seems out of touch. If the athletic department and their bloated salaries can't find the required funds then maybe it's not meant to be.
Yeah I will not donate to kids who are kind of good at a sport, who are paid more than teachers, nurses, firefighters, cops, etc.

Thinking back:

I-club
Donations for better seats
Facility upgrade donations
Travel, Parking, Food and Hotels
Bowl Games and road games

It has added up over the years but wouldn't change a thing. Adding NIL on top is hard to swallow, did it early on until players started making more than I made in my best years working. Businesses or the ultra wealthy are going to be the sources for NIL. Hopefully caps on NIL and transfer guardrails get implemented.
