is closing after 72 years in business .

hate to see this but our credit card monthly balance should go down a bit.**
That was my first job in high school (the one off of N. State). It was hard work, especially unloading a peat moss truck that had just driven through a rainstorm.

They are sitting on eight prime acres. I think they got a multi million dollar offer to sell the land.

County line has been closed for about 5-7 years now, maybe more.....the son built and opened the location in Gluckstadt, and, based on the dynamic of running a retail garden center, was probably doomed from the start when they built and developed a new piece of property. Retail nursery business is not as easy as one would think, and Gluckstadt is on the outer edge of money spenders that would frequent a full service garden center, and if you have been through Gluckstadt as of late, it's a traffic nightmare, and a prime example of how NOT to develop a community.....so unfortunately for a good family, they made a bad decision (imo) to put so much into Gluckstadt

My guess is (as someone else mentioned) they got a good offer on that prime retail spot. Maybe they're not so unfortunate. I don't know, but if I were them I wouldn't sell without a really good offer for that land.

Some inside info: They were planning an expansion not too long ago.

Someone (D Noblin Furniture) made them an offer that the family could not refuse. They were doing pretty well in that location.

So what are some of the oldest retail stores left in the Jackson area that are still at their original location? Play Pen is the first thing that comes to my mind.

Ha, that sounds like the perfect summer job for a young fellow to get in pre-season shape for his upcoming high school football season.

I know the guy that owns playpen. He got in on the internet sales in the infancy of it. And does a huge business in online baby stuff sales with several domains he owns. That store in Jackson is a small fraction of his income. Got several large warehouses

I cant believe Hutto’s is still on Ellis Avenue
Hutto's is treasured by all, and they don't overstock their perishable inventory.......and all income levels, races, ethnicities.....love "mamma hut's dirt. I grew up somewhere at some point on Ellis Ave every weekend (original Sam's location, several great restaurants, Eliss Isle Cinema, holiday inn for sundae lunch), lot's of family memories in that area.......and it makes me sad to see the destruction that a poorly run city can allow to happen.

Just like everything else along County Line. Damn shame.

My wife used to work that Rhea Lana shlt in the old Toys R Us twice a year or so. They had to have friggin security for it, I could not believe it had gotten that bad around there.
Can’t stop criminals from showing up when there’s that many Geoffrey Bucks being thrown around

The Hutto's are too I believe .
I frequent both....... admittedly a little annoying for someone to say when they are at Lakeland they feel like they are in Oxfart..... if anyone spends a hour there you kinda realize that is a very stupid comment......... so does that make him a "Karen".....

I don't get over there often anymore, but Hutto's is still top notch at what they do.

Actually source and sell tons of vegetable plant starts that aren't overpriced crap from Bonnie's. Very rare these days.

The Rogue on I-55 has been there for years. Across the street, Lemuria Book Store has been in Banner Hall forever. Carter Jewelers on High St.
