OT: Jeff Bezos' (Temu) rocket blew up at Cape Canaveral (whoops, Amazon) tonight...

I haven’t heard anything recently about Bezos’ satellite internet venture. I don’t know if it’s still in the works or not. Now he’s blowing up rockets. Maybe be should stick with selling s**t on the internet.

About 22 miles from the pad to my house as the crow flies and I didn't even hear it.

According to friends of mine who work there, pad damage is extensive.

probably obligated to pay for the resulting damage. ($$$$$)

However, looking at the structural specs of the site at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station:
  • Function & Load: The facility was entirely rebuilt from the ground up with a \(\$1\) billion investment to support the massive \(98\text{ meter}\) (\(322\text{ ft}\)) tall New Glenn rocket.[1, 2]
  • Concrete Demands: The foundation is heavily reinforced concrete and steel to handle the extreme \(3.85\text{ million pounds}\) of thrust generated at liftoff by its seven BE-4 engines.[1, 2, 3]
  • Nearby Structures: The surrounding launch team blockhouse (roughly \(1,400\text{ feet}\) away) is protected by walls ranging from \(8\) to \(15\text{ feet}\) in thickness made of sand and concrete.
