We have to start looking at it different. If OKC can sustain an NBA franchise, then the state of Kentucky can sustain what amounts to a lower tier pro team.

Eventually, I hope to see our annual payroll get up above $30 million/year.

The olden days are done. Time to embrace what actually is.

I mean honestly at this point, I hope the entire system of college sports collapses and forces change. Programs will start spending more than they actually earn and will try to pass on those losses to students, taxpayers and ultimately the federal government. Greed is out of control at this point, IMO. I don’t ever plan to spend money to see another game live, I rarely watch the games on TV anymore.

Do you have any idea how “sustaining” an NBA team works?

You know who should be angry about this stuff? Wayne Turner. And every other guy from the past 30 years who was a really good college player but never got more than a cup of coffee in the NBA.

This is not sustainable. A system in which every player is a free agent every year, and a player can earn more in a lower level of the sport than he can at the highest, is a system in which consolidation is inevitable. And "consolidation" of college football and basketball is going to destroy a big part of the appeal.

When rich guys quit donating millions and average Joe Fans stops donating hundreds, this will collapse.
More the first than the latter, I suspect. Corporate involvement will have to play more of a role. How much do people pay for seats close to the floor at Rupp? How high will that have to climb? The free agency aspect to the portal cannot continue without some cap or some other restraint mechanism. The Wild West does not last.
