Plenty of rest to go TV, Ryan & they Stone in SR. This is how you manage a pitching staff in postseason. We’re just not used to it because our coaches have mismanaged it for decades. The one negative is that if you win the Regional and go to the Super Regional, I don't think we are going to want Duke Stone pitching the first game of the SR. So that means someone will be pitching Game 1 of the SR on short rest. I was kind of thinking start with RM and then go TV and Stone which would let you keep the same rotation for the next weekend assuming you survive.
Paul Maholm pitching against an awful Middle Tennessee team still makes me angry.Plenty of rest to go TV, Ryan & they Stone in SR. This is how you manage a pitching staff in postseason. We’re just not used to it because our coaches have mismanaged it for decades.
Yeah, that was incredibly stupid. Burned him for the entire regional to pitch 7 innings in a game we won 12-4. Then he wasn't available to pitch against North Carolina, who wound up winning the regional.Paul Maholm pitching against an awful Middle Tennessee team still makes me angry.
If Stone pitching vs Lipscomb scares you (a team he's already dominated), then how would you feel about Stone pitching on Sunday versus either Louisiana or Cincinnati? This is 1000% the correct move.Scares me to death. But I think best chance for us to win the regional.

But you also don’t want RM throwing in an early game on Friday (against a 4-seed) after just throwing 80 pitches last Saturday. That’s somewhat short rest for someone who still isn’t proven to be 100%, although he might be near that point now. And you DEFINITELY don’t want to waste TV against a team we’ve already dominated. Stone is the correct call. He’s plenty capable of eating a lot of innings against a team like Lipscomb. The one negative is that if you win the Regional and go to the Super Regional, I don't think we are going to want Duke Stone pitching the first game of the SR. Exactly. And this decision was made before we had McPherson pitch the simulated game on Saturday. At least that he wouldn't start the Friday game. I guess if we had somehow not hosted (I'm sure we knew at least 95% that we'd host), we would have pitched TV vs the #3 seed and McPherson Saturday vs the #1.But you also don’t want RM throwing in an early game on Friday (against a 4-seed) after just throwing 80 pitches last Saturday. If its a Fri-Sat-Sun Super Regional, the only real restriction is that our Game 3 pitcher in the regional (RM most likely) probably can’t pitch until Game 2 of SR…which is fine. We’d lead with TV anyway.
Personally, I love this, because I think it shows a very high degree of confidence from Oak in McPherson to return to form, since he’s now assured of starting in a very high leverage game against a decent team….no matter what. If there were still a few cobwebs, I thought we might see him against Lipscomb instead.
Getting ahead of myself - the game is tomorrow ....What channel is the game on? I can't get hailstate.com to work.

Overall sounds like a good decision. We should be in really good shape starting pitching wise if we get by the first game. If we lose a game though I have no idea who would be our 4th starter?Exactly. And this decision was made before we had McPherson pitch the simulated game on Saturday. That’s every team in the country, though. Nobody has 4 reliable starters in college baseball. Most teams don’t even have two reliable starters. We’re lucky to say we have 2.5 reliable starters, when McPherson is healthy. If we lose a game though I have no idea who would be our 4th starter?

ESPN +What channel is the game on? I can't get hailstate.com to work.
I really wish Foster would find it, we need him, but at this point in the season .............Probably Sweeney, with a very short leash. We started like 7 different guys consecutively in the midweeks to start the season. He's the last one I can remember having a nice start in a big game (Gov Cup).
You'd think Foster should be the obvious choice, but he's become completely unreliable. It's sad.
I don't subscribe to that, so will miss the game. Unless they decide to expand coverage to SECN or SECN+.ESPN +

ARG ...It'll likely be on a pirate YouTube channel. I'll post a link in the game thread tomorrow when I find one.
We got this tomorrow patdog!Scares me to death. But I think best chance for us to win the regional.
It’s interesting to see the different strategies in play with different teams. More 1 seeds are throwing their ace against 4 seeds this year than I would’ve thought. Even Georgia is.
We beat them 26-0 didn't we? Hopefully we jump on them for 15 in 3 and we can throw Billingsley and Foster.
We scored in all but 1 inning, so no...Their team era is almost 7 and they've hit only 32 HRs as a team. I worry more about waking up each morning. That was their Sunday guys.
The #1 held us down for a few innings.
Same here. I like the decision now. I hope I still like it 24 hours from now.I like the move. However, I reserve the right to hate this move if we lose tomorrow. Haha
Dude, go to YouTube and search "Mississippi state baseball live" and the game will be on.I don't subscribe to that, so will miss the game. Unless they decide to expand coverage to SECN or SECN+.
That’s what your second monitor is for.ill try to remember to post a link in the game thread but it's during "work" for me so we'll see.
