Has anyone heard about this? What I. The actual hell is going on???
Ha!! $2,000.... I wish it were that cheap.Travel Ball, Select Sports, Club Sports.
That is what is going on. I have said it so many times, it is all so stupid.
And it is not the kids...it is the parents. "But but, if my son doesn't play 82 games in 7 different states...he won't make varsity later on..."
If all these parents would just...NOT...join select stuff...it would all go back to rec ball/park district ball and kids would love it, parents would love it (instead of pretending to love it and using travel ball as a great way to meet moms that hate their marriage and are looking to cheat...okay so there is one positive to travel ball) and guess what, the kids would still learn to play the game, they would still be playing against other kids and they would still have a chance to make the varsity team.
Instead, you get these idiot coaches that are charging families 2,000 dollars each to be on their "select team" and they act like a total moron.

There’s a simple solution to this now as well. Contact the Tournament director and request the Umps contact information as a witness. That should wake up the dirt burglar idiots down there. The police should have been called and that coach should have been arrested.
There are three main sports which make people famous. It is very rare for a NORMAL SIZED "suburban" kid to make the NBA or NFL. The mlb is 60% normal sized "suburban" kids. There is an illusion that you can "pay for talent" to get to the MLB, because it is really the only option. The training technology for baseball is so much more advanced than other sports, and money can buy huge improvements. A smart parent would have their kids train on machine and with biomechanical means and have extreme measurables such as spin rate for pitchers or high exit velocity and proper launch angle for hitters. Then have them play 10-20 games for a nearby travel team just to get some game experience. The mlb doesn't care about stats, they care about measurables, and they would love a pitcher who throws 100 but doesn't have much of a load on their arm to extend their time before tommy john is needed.Travel Ball, Select Sports, Club Sports.

I get what you are saying but until about 30 years ago...there was not select baseball yet somehow there were still MLB players and most of the stats have not changed that dramatically over the years...There are three main sports which make people famous. I was going in on the low end!Ha!! $2,000.... I wish it were that cheap.
The non-stop cheating that goes on with those select teams (or almost cheating) is amazing! The team mom that flirted with all the dads (and I later learned may have kissed at least one of them) came up to me sitting in my car once, I was waiting till closer to game time to go in, windows are tinted so she could tell it was me, and by this time everyone knew everyone and their cars, but up to now my (now ex, and deceased) wife was sitting in the passenger seat, and the flirty mom hadn't met her or seen me with her, yet....and apparently the flirty mom (who all the dads wanted a piece of because she was fine AF and later after my divorce I went looking for her at the bar she worked at) came up, drunk, and opened my door and squatted down to talk to me....she glances over and see's my wife and turned 10 shades of red and couldn't utter a word. Had to spend a few minutes convincing my wife there was nothing going on, it was just my turn to be flirted with.
.....never did run into her again, but oh gawd I so woulda smashed if I had. Assuming she'd lower her standards for me of course.
I assume all teams have one of them mom's and many dads probably tell their wives.. "You stay home this weekend, no sense both of us being gone for the whole weekend..." and hook up with said flirty mom.
I get what you are saying but until about 30 years ago...there was not select baseball yet somehow there were still MLB players and most of the stats have not changed that dramatically over the years...
Also, a HUGE % of MLB players come from countries that have no select baseball or hardly even electricity and running water...they use cut up gallon water jugs as baseball gloves and play in open fields.
Ya this isn’t a Million Dollar arm situation when you just happen to find talentThose same countries have mlb teams running academies for players when they're kids
Bat, glove, batting gloves (which are pretty sweet), helmet, bag, 2-3 unis, hotels, food, gas...I was going in on the low end!
I forgot to add in the 600 dollar bat you need to buy and the 100 dollar sunglasses. Haha
Don't forget this emailBat, glove, batting gloves (which are pretty sweet), helmet, bag, 2-3 unis, hotels, food, gas...
You find out with so many games that your normal lawn chair just isn't going to cut it for the full season so you even upgrade your lawn chairs, drink cups, cooling fan, etc etc
Won't be the last!At the most recent tournament I was at, a female coach was ejected for continuing to use demeaning language towards her own catcher. First time I'd seen that one.

Softball? I completely believe it. There are some straight up lunatics. At the most recent tournament I was at, a female coach was ejected for continuing to use demeaning language towards her own catcher. First time I'd seen that one.

Here’s a professional but enthusiastic version of that email:
Dear Parents,
I am excited to let everyone know about an opportunity that recently became available for our 9U team! We have the chance to participate in a wooden bat tournament this weekend that was not originally on our schedule.
This tournament is approximately 300 miles away and guarantees each team at least 5 games, which is a great opportunity for extra reps, development, and a fun baseball experience for the players.
Since this event was not included in our original season schedule and budget, participation would require an additional cost of $250 per family to help cover tournament fees and team expenses.
I know this is short notice and requires extra commitment from families, but I truly hope everyone will be able to join us for what should be a memorable weekend and unique experience for the boys.
Please let me know as soon as possible if your family will be able to participate so we can determine if we have enough interest to move forward. Remember, if one family can't make it, none of us will go.
Thanks everyone, and I’m excited about the possibility of adding this experience to our season!
Coach Stetson
Saw a coach lose control last year. He was screaming at the girls. The fatass was slobbering all over. He screamed some nonsense and one of the parents had enough and told him what he yelled was incorrect (or something, we are on the other team). Guy challenges the parent to a fight. The parent steps right up to him. Coach retreats and then quits right after the game. I guess he had the team for 3 years. Some of the parents told us he just lost it. He wasn’t more than a glorified scheduler we were told. Pretty embarrassing for him. The parents told us he was in trouble with the organization and was gone the next day anyway… because of behavior from the previous day. He chickened out and quit insteadYes, this was a 13u softball team. The coach had just lost it. All game long, she was ripping her own players and then taking a few jabs at the umpires. Finally, in the last inning, the female home plate umpire tossed her.
In 20+ years of coaching many different sports. I have never had a flag thrown on me, never been "talked to" by a ref/ump and never have I yelled at a ump/ref.Coaches in hs seem to be as wild. That Skutt coach lost his mind screaming at the umps after his team WON the state championship
This is why I brought up the lack of hope that "suburban" kids have in other sports, at least at the professional level. There is an illusion that you can buy your way into the MLB. Of course historically being an mlb hitter meant you had to have the hand eye coordination of a jet fighter pilot while also being in the top 99% in arm strength, being a pitcher meant you had to be even freakier with arm strength or talent. The club and travel business tricks parents into thinking they can pay to win essentially. It is a smart scam, taking advantage of competitive people with kids who aren't good enough for the pros, but want to larp as athletes for a few years. We all use to play act as athletes for much cheaper, but like everything, it has been monetized to the max because of greed.I get what you are saying but until about 30 years ago...there was not select baseball yet somehow there were still MLB players and most of the stats have not changed that dramatically over the years...

You are forgetting the $80 oven-mitt to wear on the bases.I was going in on the low end!

I forgot about that sliding mitt!!! HahahaYou are forgetting the $80 oven-mitt to wear on the bases.
You’d think some of these vaginas are going to war with the stuff they HAVE to wear at the plate and on the base paths.
Right???Love it when travel teams from Gretna and Millard end up playing in San Diego
Will there be college scouts there???Don't forget this email

"College Showcase Event"Will there be college scouts there???
Because my 9-year old needs to start seeing some offers before I dip any further into my 401K, or the home equity line!
That’s what happens kids get burned out by the time college rolls around and they want no part in it again.if you are good enough coaches will find you it’s as simple as that."College Showcase Event"
I almost fell out of my ******* chair the first time I heard that one from a kid.
They were skipping school and did not play on the school team...to travel to Florida for a "College Show Case" tourney in soccer.
That kid ended up going to UNL and not playing sports.
The oven mitt makes me laugh. Truly ridiculous. Love when the overweight catcher who is never going to steal a base puts one on.You are forgetting the $80 oven-mitt to wear on the bases.

It just isn't that hard.
Now, I do make really witty sarcastic comments under my breath. Mostly because I am a giant *****.
