Empty Seats at Dudy Noble regularly

Let me start off in an extremely positive manner in that our baseball fan support is unparalleled and getting better. That is a testament to the excitement Coach Oconnor has brought to the program and should be commended.

However, even when we announce “sellout” record breaking crowds you turn on the tv and half the bleachers are empty behind home plate. This is not a one off either, it happens nearly every time. Could a system not be developed to ensure we actually fill up the stadium? If someone owns those tickets and regularly don’t show up, do not allow them to purchase the tickets again. It looks terrible on television. Make a system where they can be distributed to other bulldog fans or GA if folks know they are coming. Any thoughts?

I know alot of chairback fans that will go out to the outfield during games to see friends and what not. This is a not a big deal imo when we are far and away the best atmosphere in college baseball already.

Maybe we have seat fillers at some point. I've seen some of that stuff in MLB games before. If you have a hailstate dog tag (which all ticket holders do) then it is already very easy to transfer tickets.

You don’t see Duke basketball with half the seats empty around the court. Why are some people OK with half our stadium seats empty behind home plate? It’s not a good look.

And the Bulldog Club has a LFL spot as does "The Office of the President" near ours and they both are empty WAY MORE than occupied during the season. If the President of the University can't find one or two alum families that would want to occupy that box EVERY game its a shame. It shows a lack of giving a sh-it to me when an attempt isn't made to fill it every game

I would say the design of the stadium and the ability to get up and move around and see the field probably leads to seats being vacated for periods of time, like the guy said about walking around the lounge. Then people probably going in and out of the club areas.

People in the grandstand go visit the outfield, go to the triple crown club, go check out the merch shops, take young kids to the play area, older kids are constantly going to walk around, etc, etc. As someone who has chairbacks, I can assure you people are constantly coming and going to various places. Just because you see an empty seat on television, doesn't mean that ticket hasn't been used.

It’s going to happen almost anywhere but if technology can be created I’ve said we should make everyone pay the seat license only. That gives you both right of first refusal on every ticket and also makes you the default buyer. So if a ticket is $20 and you don’t claim it within 48 hours (or whatever time frame) it goes on sale to the public at $30 If it sells the license holder gets the extra $10. If it doesn’t the license holder pays $20. But you would need some good technology to make it efficient and worth it

They (smartly) put the students around the court, so it looks good on camera and is louder for the opponents. I don't think you can put the student section behind home plate in baseball.

People get up and move around. Seats will always be empty. The Dude is like a massive tail gating family reunion. Walking around, visiting, eating, drinking, having a good time. That's what makes it special.

Basketball and baseball crowds are completely different. When you go to a basketball game, you go to watch the game, so you stay in your seat. At a baseball game, many people are there to just socialize. That means they're going to walk around, visit friends in the Left Field Lounge, go with their kids to the play area, go to the merchandise stand. Just because the seats are empty doesn't mean the person isn't there.

First of all I can guarantee that you don't have "half the stadium seats empty" behind home plate every game. Some Tuesday night games maybe. Do you realize that those seats are also part of "The Triple Crown Club?" From the website:

"Located directly behind home plate, these seats put fans right on top of the action. Pass holders for this exclusive area typically receive complimentary food and non-alcoholic beverages, along with in-seat service and access to dedicated, upscale club amenities." They also can stock their boxes w/ the adult beverages of their choice, my words not the website.

Maybe "half" those fans are inside drinking, eating, hanging out with friends, watching the game on tv while doing so? I know the times my wife and I have been fortunate enough to be invited to any of the premium seating areas in football, basketball, and baseball, we are all over the place, especially her when its hot she will almost always be inside and never sit in a seat.

The people that complain about this are the same people that insist that they paid for their football seats by damn and if they want to stand the whole game in front of somebody and block their view, that is their right because by damn its their seat! Well as far as I'm concerned the same logic applies, if those people at The Dude don't want to sit in their seats but go inside and eat drink and be merry, they paid for those seats and the inside amenities and they can do whatever the hell they want to with that seat.

I’m very familiar with the area. This shouldn’t be difficult. I agree with the person who said it’s the persons ticket and they should be able to do with it as they please. The university should also be able to do as it pleases and if say row 2, seat 3 is empty for 10% of games… revoke privileges for that person to buy the ticket again. If someone wants to spend their time in the outfield… encourage them to buy tickets there. If someone knows they can’t be there… give them option to release tickets to other bulldogs or GA. It would greatly enhance the game day experience and improve optics on NATIONAL broadcasts.

Some of those people have tickets in the triple crown club as well and stand. I know that bc I have a friend that has 4 of those tickets and he's in triple crown every game so fail. Can't speak for the rest but that's some of them. And you have to have a ticket to get in the stadium. Triple crown doesn't get you in the stadium

Sigma Dawg, you have got to literally be the only person who is complaining about the baseball stadium crowd and atmosphere for nationally televised games. Everyone else, including announcers, visiting fans, internet people, etc., raves about it. It's the best baseball atmosphere in the country, but for some reason that isn't good enough for you. You're either trolling or you're just a contrarian. No one else agrees with you, so it's pointless for you to keep posting in this thread.

Yeah, we've got a troll here.

Who else would want to create a position for someone to watch the seats in the stadium to monitor how many minutes someone sat there during the season. Do you want this done for the premium seats in Davis Wade too, someone to watch and see how much time a fan spends inside the The Gridiron Club, The Floyd Wade Club, The Scoreboard Club, etc vs how much time they spent sitting in their seats outside? Do you hear voices in your head talking back while you are dreaming this stuff up?

You all are doing exactly what the troll wants. This isn't a problem. People pay good money for the seats, they aren't just not going like the lifers did in 2006. And gonna be even more expensive after 2029 when the licenses expire.

If people want to say that we should expand the stadium, that's a valid and different argument. This one isn't, it's just dumb.

This is just bulldoghair trying to 17 with ya'll.

No one is screwing with me. I’m just throwing out an idea that would help multiple issues and possibly reduce the need to spend money on a big expansion.

If this message board is any indication, our fanbase has too many lards who are content with us looking third class. Let’s keep half the seats empty! Looks fantastic on television as the announcers discuss record crowds!
