First of all, I hope that Beamer succeeds. I'm at the age where I know I'm getting close to taking the exit ramp in this road trip called "life on earth". Thus, I don't want to start over. For Beamer to pretty much guarantee that we'd make the playoffs this coming season tells me all I need to know.
If Beamer fails, I'd look at what Donati did at TCU when he let go the legendary Gary Patterson. He hired a mature, experienced proven Head Coach who was familiar with the recruiting territory there. Who would fill that criteria? Tyson Helton of Western Kentucky. In 7 years there, he has won a couple of division championships. Against Conference USA opponents who supposedly had similar resources, he has won 73% of his games. In his time there, his teams beat Arkansas, lost to Indiana by 2 and 3 points, lost to Boston College by 1 and last year lost to LSU by 3 at Death Valley. So, he seems to have the coaching chops. If we have an opening, I'd back up a Brinks truck to bring him to Columbia. But, that's me, as I know little and claim less.
If you want someone close to 60 ala Holtz and Spurrier: what's Mike Gundy up to these days?
