The current weekend weather outlook for the NCAA Regional matchups at Dudy Noble Field indicates a high likelihood of rain and thunderstorm interruptions, particularly during the first three days of the tournament.

DayDaytime ConditionHigh TempRain Chance (Day)Rain Chance (Night)
Friday, May 29Thunderstorm81°F45%35%
Saturday, May 30Thunderstorm85°F40%25%
Sunday, May 31Light rain88°F65%65%
Monday, June 1Partly sunny84°F20%5%

Key Impacts for the Games

  • Friday & Saturday: Thunderstorms are explicitly forecast during the day for both the opening round and winners/elimination brackets. With daytime rain chances holding at 45% and 40%, lighting delays are a distinct possibility for both the afternoon and evening windows.
  • Sunday: Sunday carries the highest overall threat of persistent weather disruption. The forecast transitions to "light rain" with precipitation chances jumping to 65% during both the day and night cycles, meaning the regional finals could experience prolonged damp conditions or scheduling adjustments.
  • Monday (If Necessary): If weather delays force games into Monday, conditions clear up significantly. The forecast drops down to a minor 20% chance of daytime rain under partly sunny skies.

Bottom line: not a washout, but daily lightning/rain delay risk is real, especially Friday afternoon/evening, Saturday afternoon, Sunday afternoon/evening, and Monday afternoon. The safest baseball windows look like late morning to early afternoon before storms build, and Saturday night looks like the best recovery window.

DayBaseball impact forecast
Friday 5/29Highest concern. Showers/storms likely after late morning/early afternoon. NWS has 70%, WeatherBug 70%, AI forecast flags heavy thunderstorm/flood-prone downpours. Delay risk: High.
Saturday 5/30Better than Friday, but storms likely to build after 1 PM. Night improves. Delay risk: Moderate–High afternoon, Low–Moderate evening.
Sunday 5/31Similar pattern: partly sunny early, storms more likely after 1 PM. Delay risk: Moderate–High afternoon/evening.
Monday 6/1Scattered storm risk continues, mainly afternoon. Delay risk: Moderate.

My exact working forecast: expect playable baseball each day, but plan for 1–3 hour delays from pop-up thunderstorms, with Friday the most likely day for major disruption.

Weekend summary
All four days carry meaningful rain/storm risk. Friday is the most concerning for the 1 pm first pitch — showers and possible thunderstorms are likely throughout the day (NWS: 100% PoP, ~½–¾ in. total). Saturday and Sunday remain active with 70–80% chances. Monday (if-necessary game) looks like the best window with some partly sunny breaks, though a late storm cluster is still possible.

The straight skinny of the skies: This is a rough weekend for outdoor baseball. A persistent, slow-moving moisture feed from the south is keeping the entire region active from Friday through Sunday.

Here's the bottom line by day:

1779920117754.png
Friday (May 29) is the most dangerous day on the schedule. NWS puts precipitation probability at 100% with expected totals of a half to three-quarters of an inch, and AccuWeather specifically flagged slow-moving downpours with potential for localized flash flooding. The 1 PM Mississippi State vs. Lipscomb game faces a very real delay or postponement threat. The 6 PM Cincinnati–Louisiana game is also at risk if storms drag into evening, which is highly likely.

1779920168606.png
Saturday (May 30) stays active. Weather Underground warns of heavy thunderstorms with potential for severe thunderstorms — their language is the strongest of any source for Saturday. NWS keeps PoP at 70–80%. The 3 PM and 8 PM games both have meaningful windows of exposure.

1779920180469.png
Sunday (May 31) is a slight improvement but still unsettled. NWS shows a 60% chance of showers and thunderstorms with a partly sunny high near 86°F — the most optimistic it gets this weekend. A broken storm pattern rather than widespread rain gives the afternoon games a fighting chance if cells stay scattered.

1779920196535.png
Monday (June 1, if necessary) is the best day by far. The most recent NWS update pulled the forecast back considerably to a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms mainly after 4 PM, with partly sunny skies and a high near 84°F. A morning game would very likely go off without a problem.

Looks like there will be some weather delays but should get the regional in. All the more reason to play the early game Friday.

Almost a certainty to be delays this weekend as we're under a very tropical air mass. I don't anticipate any complete day washouts, though. Could have some games going well into the night and/or starting early in the morning since most of the storms will be driven by daytime heating.
