Many people won’t change even if Pope wins some big games. The Doomsday group will be waiting for the loss where they can say “I told you so, Pope sucks”. I don’t think Pope is ready for UK, but I will back the team, that’s all we have, no Mashburn is walking in the door this year to save us. We just have to Hope again this year!
He can’t coach. Winning a game herecavd there won’t make him a good coach.

the fire pope brigade, is our and about, that's why here lately people avoid this board. our schedule last two years were hardest that been in a two year span and we had no pg last year. yeah popes fault but still. all the great coaches are gone and the reason why scrodem at duke is doing alright is cuz k still lurks in the shadows. wildcat wally is the Duke guy who post on this board. it's always just bait...

can't coach duke, gonzaga, tn x four times, Arkansas, st johns, Florida. I bet you thought cal was a great coach getting beat by Evansville, Richmond, UNC-ashville or whatever, etc. I hope the ones hoping we lose every game to fire gotta suffer because we win a lot next year. you guys get off on being negative.

Mark and I do not agree on things. 12 and 13 loss seasons so far is not something to be super proud of imo. But he does average 12 losses a season for his career so he is who/what he was when he was hired. Was hoping the UK job would help him rise above his averages.
He is certainly justifying why everyone was so pissed off about the hire for about 16 hours after it was announced.

Cal critics: “you can’t win with Freshman, I’m glad to be getting some older players. Freshman always lose early in the season and take forever to grow up and play like a team”

“Pope has shown he can get it done, remember when he beat Duke in the second game of the year? That’s a freakin huge win!”

The elephant in the room. UK started 4 5th year seniors and Duke started 3 Freshman and 1 sophomore and was missing their star Freshman Center to injury. All of this in their second ever college game on National TV.

What's your point? We were a 3 seed that year. Duke was a 4 seed with the two best rookie NBA guys this year.

I have very few issues with Pope in Y1. In fact, the only issue I have is him taking the team to a f'ing steakhouse the night before the UT game in the Sweet 16.

Y2 - I have issues with all of it.

Stop whitewashing last season would be a good start. The culture he’s cultivating here is rotten.
Idk how people read these quotes and don’t want Pope escorted out of Lex immediately. He talks like a loser who’s already preparing his excuse for next season. How can people not see this? I thought this fanbase was crazy and had super high standards. So many of y’all are soft as hell.
The culture you are cultivating is not better when considering the search for the next coach. Most coaches are going to see UK as too big of a gamble because of a short leash so to speak. 2 years in and gone is not a good look especially given the climate of recruiting and building todays teams with players being able to opt out after 1 year if a better option comes along. That does not mean I or any others who are not ready to pull the trigger yet like the way things are going. Far from it, but we have to temper our discontent with a little wisdom considering the optics of the situation going forward. At least 1 more year and if no improvement (has to be big imo) or a further decline, then it would be a much easier sell for termination.

Eleven years.

Eleven years and only one season where he won at least 75% of his games.

No seasons where he's won more than 75% of his games.

Never landed a top 15 recruit.

Never made it past the Sweet Sixteen.

Never won a tournament game before Kentucky.

0/14 on top 20 recruits last season.

Got played like a fiddle by Tyran Stokes.

64% winning percentages over the course of his career.

6th and 9th place finishes in the SEC.

Historic number of 15 point deficits.

Has lost by a combined 32 points in elminination tourney games while at Kentucky.

He's proud of what they've accomplished.

The sickest part is that there are some of our fans who are still proud of what he's accomplished.

This is how you become Indiana, folks.
After the Georgetown loss Pope said the Hoyas played physical and we don’t practice that way. In other words UK got punked and lost. To me that is the main reason everything you mentioned happened. For everyone that played basketball remember when you played against someone that was soft how easy it was to do anything you wanted on the court. Except for a few players in Pope’s time at UK we are not a physical team. That is the first thing that needs to be corrected.

The results have been neither bad nor good at this point imo. I'm still glad the program isn't being built on fast track to the NBA though.
I do however think MP's first season was a success, given what he had to start with. I was disappointed with this past season's team, but there were certainly injury issues that played a significant role.

No complaints about the ‘26-‘27 squad from me until we see the product on the court.

We did pay several bench pieces starter money last season of course. Not all, but most of the hired guns brought in would have been ideal 6th or 7th seats.

I actually like the squad we have heading into next season, despite the fact we still do not have a true All American type star on the roster and/or no stud recruit to watch. Just really need Mom at this point.

Pope knows his back is against the wall. Injuries have sucked, but that is a smoke cloud he can hide behind for only so long.

I’m a semi-Pope basher that actually wants him to prove me wrong. Super smart guy, high quality individual, and a former UK champ….of course I want him to prove me wrong. Time will tell. but the clock is ticking.
I’m just like this ^

UK fans when Cal uses coach speak: "I hate this con artist double talk. Why can't he just be honest for once??"
UK fans when Pope uses coach speak: "Well what do you expect him to say?? Every coach talks that way!"

ok.
Seems to me like probably 80% are trashing Pope for his comments.
And Cal had his nuthuggers too .

It's no secret Mark Pope has been the target of anger from fans on social media. Tuesday at the SEC Spring Meeting in Florida, the Kentucky coach talked about the haters during a one-on-one interview with The Cats' Pause.

A 14-loss season that ended with an opening weekend exit from the NCAA Tournament set the mood and it only soured from there as weeks passed with no massive movement by Kentucky to build a new roster via the transfer portal or in high school recruiting. "If you have a glass chin, don't take the Kentucky job," the coach told The Cats' Pause during a one-on-one interview Tuesday at the SEC Spring Meeting on the Florida gulf coast.
"It's just part of the deal here," Pope said. "It's just baked in the cake. We were hired to win." I'm actually super proud of what we've done over the last two years, especially given the circumstances," Pope said. "I'm excited about the direction we're going. I'm excited about what we've been able to withstand. "One of the things I'm really proud of is our guys being able to keep recreating who we are," he said. "I'm really proud of our culture where our guys stay together and stay in it. When you build from that, you have a great chance to become great

One word...DELUSIONAL.

How can you blame us for saying that? Since he’s been here and even at BYU it’s been his one consistent trait to win a couple games people didn’t expect and then drop games he has no business losing. That might work at BYU but that’s not gonna fly here.

He needs a PR coach.

You can't say this stuff after telling everyone "I understand the assignment"

The answer to every question should have been "we have to fix some things, we did some good things, but this is UK, we haven't been good enough, but we will be" or something along those lines. The last thing you say right now is that you're pleased and happy. No, you just can't say that. Ugh.

He said that??? I don't ever remember hearing him say that.
