Nice catch !

I think Grant Billmier is the HC at NJIT.
Is this the same Grant Billmeier who would have been an NBA lottery pick if his career stats mirrored how he dominated Byron Joynes? Same guy ? Shelby wonders 😁

Sure they do, just not American football. That’s the point. Shelby plays chess.

The analogy just wasn’t good to begin with and your attempted connection forced.

Wagner’s football team is consistently ranked among the worst FCS teams (bottom 5% regularly and often the very worst - sometimes by a wide mile). NJIT’s basketball program won 16 games last season, and while they certainly qualify as a cupcake, their NET wasn’t even in the bottom 10% of all D1 programs (let alone D2).

Shelby’s point had nothing to do with the NJIT basketball team. Chess. It was about Schiano’s scheduling philosophy/need. 11 on each side in American football and rest-of-the-world football. Give them helmets and pads and Schiano will gladly take that W.

This thread is specifically about NJIT and the men’s basketball team. It’s in the basketball forum and has nothing whatsoever to do with football. You tried to create a parallel that simply doesn’t exist between scheduling Wagner for football and this announcement. When we scheduled Wagner for football they were coming off an 0-11 season in FCS. NJIT is coming off a 3rd place 10-6 finish in their own conference which by their standards was a pretty good season. They are a nearby in-state school and for the coming season adding them to the schedule makes complete sense. Basically - you just felt like making an anti-Schiano post in a random spot unrelated to football.

Again, Shelby did not comment on the Highlanders.

I’m deducting points for low effort.

You can’t deduct points from a zero. His comment didn’t belong in this thread. There are no similarities whatsoever. NJIT is a regional state school in NJ coming off a decent season in their own conference. They are supposed to get back one of their star guards and about half the team’s overall production which is pretty good for a low major. We knew we’d be scheduling cupcakes, but NJIT in no way stands out as a deliberate attempt to schedule worst possible. Plus Tariq went there which at least adds a little twist to the game.

Even the Bryant game announcement would’ve been a less random place for Shelby’s cheap shot at Schiano. Bryant actually does project to be one of the worst D1 teams next year and they are coming off like a 4-12 finish or something like that in the American East. Plus a private school not from NJ.

And yet again you miss despite being informed that Shelby made no assertion about NJIT being a cupcake, the worst possible, etc. Why does Pub Sch AL keep arguing that ?

You came on this specific NJIT thread and tried to make a joke that didn’t fit - that NJIT was replacing Wagner on Greg’s soft schedule. That’s a derogatory comparison of Wagner football (worst FCS program) to NJIT basketball.

No, it’s disparagement of Schiano and his scheduling need for the easiest wins, even if that were to include the NJIT ‘football’ team.

Yeah exactly - you posted about easiest wins on a thread about scheduling NJIT. How do you not see the connection? NJIT doesn’t even have a football team. In other words, your post simply made no sense at all. It would’ve been just as relevant if you posted something like it on the current events or baseball forum.

The way the schedule is shaping up we need one more Q1/2/3 and 3 Q4s (6/6) for the new total of 32 games.

20 B1G
(6) Vegas ×3, Seton Hall, Syracuse, ?
(6) Army, Bryant, NJIT, ? ×3

I guess they couldn't get Montclair State.

Why do you say that? Doesn’t seem like we’re aim for “worst available” at all. Pike didn’t “have” to schedule Syracuse. In fact, he didn’t even have to leave home for another game for OOC - we’re playing 3 neutral games in Vegas and now 5 high majors (or UNLV in one). Seems he’s for the most part, simply trying to bring butts in the seats and/or using his connections to negotiate cheaper money games where he can. The military teams always generate more interest than other cupcakes (cheerleaders alone and plus some fans like supporting them and come to games). He has a relationship with NJIT coach likely from Tariq, it’s a local state school, etc. makes total sense for us. The only random cupcake on the schedule so far is Bryant. Maybe Puke has ties to that program still from Kiss?
