Put yourself in UGA's shoes. Would you be glad to see State paired with your bracket?..

It would be an interesting Super for sure. I think Georgia is just flat out better than us. But we’re 0-4 in four close losses so that feels unsustainable on some level if we see them again. Granted, it may just mean they blow us out next time. But it could also mean we are due a couple of W’s against them.

Also the postseason track record of Wes vs Oak is pretty fascinating. Oak is one of the best postseason coaches in modern college baseball history…. Wes has been a Top 8 seed every year he’s been a head coach, but never made it to Omaha i.e. he’s made a habit of losing in the postseason on his home field.

Out of the 4 games this year, we are split 2 games to 2 with them in hits. As much as they slug, you would think they would be light years ahead of us in that category. Pair that with getting Ryno back, we have a fighters chance against them in 2 weeks.

I could see it either of 2 ways:

1) They are fairly confident, because they went 4-0 and they won all of the games away from home.

2) They are somewhat concerned, because while they did go 4-0, all the games were close. Plus, they had profound pitching advantages. Their #1 got to face Duke Stone in Hoover. And they never had to face a healthy McPherson.

Hard to know which sentiment would be more prevalent. Doesn’t really matter, I suppose.

You would think they would be giddy about it having gone 4-0 against us this season but I would not.

Two reasons why I would not: 1) All 4 games were close and it is difficult to beat anybody 4 times in a row without a loss in competitive games much less 6. You gotta think lady luck has to tip in our favor at some point. 2) After 7 weeks we now have our previous #1 pitcher back who was not available when we played UGA back in April and that creates a new dynamic.

Now I am NOT predicting an upset over uga. Hell, we gotta a long way to go to even get there, but I know it would make me a bit uncomfortable if it was us in that situation.

I would much rather be the team that has won for in a row. I hear “it’s hard to be a team xxx in a row”. At this level, almost all of the games are hard. I would prefer to go into them thinking ”they can’t beat us“.

To bring it closer to home, what if State and Ole Miss meet in Omaha. Would you rather be the team going into at 4-0 or 0-4?

I don’t think either of those sentiments really matter that much to the question of whether UGA should want us in their super. They should get the third worst host team opposite them based on their seed.

UGA isn’t going to be scared of us, but there are at least 4 and possibly 6 teams hosting that they’d probably pick to be opposite of them if they were ranking the host teams.

I don't feel great about it, but baseball is a weird sport. A team gets hot at the plate, pitching catches fire, and a couple of bad bounces can change everything. If you make it to the Supers, you're a very good team. The problem is, you're going to be matched up against another very good team.

That’s all true in theory, but that’s not considering the laughable reality that the NCAA intentionally manipulates seeding to create SEC matchups in the super regionals. As soon as everyone saw UGA at #3 and Auburn at #4, we all knew that we were getting matched with one of them.

ETA: I’m shocked that we were the only SEC vs. SEC matchup, despite golden opportunities existing to match up Texas A&M vs. Texas, Florida vs. Alabama, etc. They even could have done Bama / Auburn if they dropped Bama to 9th, but that would have been a stretch. Also had the ability to match Florida and FSU. It’s almost like the committee actively gerrymandered it to avoid all of those matchups, which is really stupid. Perhaps there was some backdoor politics from the SEC and B1G saying they didn’t want a bunch of interconference or rivalry matchups in the supers. They also didn’t match UCLA and Oregon, which would have made sense. Very bizarre that they didn’t want potentially compelling TV matchups in the Supers.

I actually thought we were going to Ga Tech. I'd rather play UGA.

Same scenario - How would we feel about being matched up against Ole Miss in a Super Regional?
This. We would feel supremely confident we would win, having already beaten them 4 times this year. I highly doubt UGA sees us and thinks after beating us 4 times this year that they should be scared of us or that they’d rather be paired with someone else

You have to expect to face a top 16 team at that point. So does it really matter if it's us or someone else of our caliber? If anything, their hitters will be a little more comfortable having seen our pitchers (of course, same for ours). But complaining about match-ups at that late stage is a little silly and with so many SEC teams making it, there are going to be some rematches. No grand conspiracy needed to ensure that.

Your are right, I would be very confident if in their shoes and of course they shouldn't be scared of us. But they have already played us four times and beaten us four times all in close games. The sheer improbability of that and the greater improbability of 6 in a row has to at least cross the mind.

I think it can only become a mental benefit to us is if we were able to win game 1 against them. Anyway, all of this is just idle conversation while we wait.

UCLA hasn't been tested in almost 3 months. I think they probably make the CWS, but I don't think they make the finals.
Maybe, but teams like UCLA that are not so home run heavy tend to do better in omaha than teams like UGA where power often turns into long fly balls
