You're gunning for 24 because that puts you closer to the 20% market that most other divisions use. Also basketball and baseball. And still on the lower end.

The only argument against 24 is that it kills the conference championship games. And as that article said, as soon as it is proven that the SEC will be made whole, it's gone.

No offense, but stupid argument. As playoff slots/seeding are determined by regular season results, the regular season matters as much as ever. Playoffs make the regular season even better.

If Michigan upsets Ohio State last year, the Buckeyes still make the playoff. The year before they did beat them, and OSU went on to win the title. So no, the regular season does not matter like it used to. Also, no offense, but you're dumber than a bag of hammers.

Conferences are too big and lop-sided to hinge everything on an uneven regular season record. We've reached the point where we have to play it off.

Not to mention, the days of rivalries and such went out the door a long time ago. So I tend to agree we've lost a lot of good things about the game, but let's be honest here, the combo of NIL and portal is what ruined it. We can't go back and change that, so from this point in time, the playoff is about the only thing we can do to keep people engaged.

Byes also keep people engaged....it's another goal for the top teams. Especially if that game will be played on their home field.

I’m for 24 because all these bowl games outside of the playoffs means nothing to me. It will at least make the lower tier playoff games more meaningful than no nothing bowls.

I prefer 24, but the SEC cannot give up the SECCG unless the conference gets an additional $75 million per year off the top to replace the SECCG revenue. That +/-$5 million per school is important to every school not named Texas or Texas A & M. The revenue associated with Conference Championship Games is almost irrelevant outside the SEC & Big 10.

They could still play another 10-12 minor bowls on days/nights that there is not CFP game to maintain a postseason for all the schools outside the CFP that would be worthy of a bowl in today's scenario.

At this point we've done enough damage to the bowls that I want State to have a better chance of making it, even if it arguably makes it worse overall. So 24 out of the options, but I don't see any reason to stop it at 24 instead of 32. Byes aren't necessary. And since it seems clear we are going to have automatic bids for teams that don't really belong, might as well let playing those teams be the reward instead of the bye.

I know we will never go back, but I miss the old New Year’s Day With just the big four bowls. That was the single greatest day in American sports to me. There is nothing like it now.

12 sounds reasonable until you give 17% of those bids to the JM’s and Tulane’s of the world.

10 game regular season like the old days. 2 pre-season games last 2 weekends of August against teams in the next level. The 8 best teams from that level play to make the last 4 Play off teams. Those 4 winners have to play the top 4 seeds in round 1. Teams 5 through 60 matchup in the other round 1 games.
64 to 32 to 16 to 8 to 4 to 2 to Champion
