He was my favorite before I even realized how great of a recruiter he was. You can tell when he talks that dude just gets it. Plus he has ties to that southeast region where a lot of big athletic lineman come from. Add that to the fact that he has a higher ceiling at Nebraska than he did at GT this seems to be a HR hire.

My only regret is that Rhule didn't get this guy earlier. It's past time that we start getting some big men who can move instead of these "frame" guys who likely won't ever be good enough to take us where we want to be. I know there will be some politics involved but I'm wondering if they will even keep Erickson as a recruit. He seems much more like what Raiola would want vs Geep. But again him being a legacy will likely play a part in this.

Anyways keep up the good work. Hope we can get a guy who can recruit/develop the DL this way. Think Brown will be good for development but not sure he has the chops that Geep has shown as a recruiter.

This is fantastic!! Seeing now what a monumental deficit our former O line coach created. The man was such a dick nobody wanted to play for him.
But all we heard about was how our OL was the closest knit group on the entire team. How they pretty much did everything together etc. All of that's fine and dandy. I think the culture in that room is probably what we would like to see continued. But the talent and development part of it was likely ***. It's obvious Geep doesn't like what he's seen this far from them. In about 6 months or so he's brought in like 3 transfers who are likely to start or see a lot of PT and 3 very good HS recruits who also might be ready sooner than later. This from a group that had the most tenured coach on the entire staff. Donnie was there for what like 5 years or so? Yet still what weve seen from the OL is somewhat questionable.

I think I may have even given Donnie too much credit. I'll admit I'm glad he's gone.

Maybe Donnie was a bigger dick than I thought. 🤔

Was he actually a dick or was he just incompetent? I knew he was the latter, guess I never heard he was also the former?

Anyhoo, I know I need to figure out a way to muster up some excitement for this, but the cynic in me goes straight to just being pissed that we may have completely wasted 3 years, if it was as simple as ditching Uncle Donnie.

I need to work on it.

Sales...recruiting is sales, even with NIL. And sales is brutal but it seems that Geep knows how to sell and how to relate.

Give Geep a heck of a bonus for his recruiting work and get a few of the other coaches to start producing.
And enjoy them the 2 years they last. We can’t and won’t be able to keep top recruiters. Too much living on an airplane.

We had more problems than Donnie. Special teams AND defensive coaching have been weak. I’m concerned going forward about both of those areas. I know there was a lot of love for Ek, but his unit did some really head scratching things at times this past season. We’ll see if Aurich is ready for the B1G.

That Erickson kid is a monster and he seems like exactly the type of kid who would go to Iowa, Minnesota, NDSU or SDSU and wind up getting drafted in five years. I'm hoping that we can keep him and actually start developing some of these linemen. It's ridiculous that other regional schools are developing linemen-- Iowa, Iowa State (although some later transferred), NDSU, SDSU (a couple have transferred)-- while Nebraska hasn't been able to do it in 20 years. Whatever happened to the Pipeline?

I suppose you are right. But in my mind, we should not have fewer linemen drafted than kids from those other schools including Iowa. It is astounding to me that a program that stood for excellent, physical offensive line play is one of the worst in its conference year after year. Take away hype, lip service and tradition from 30-60 years ago and this program has nothing.

We were a downhill mow you over O line in those days. We went from that to more of a finesse style of O line play with Frost. Oregonesque. Seems like Geep is adjusting the philosophy. I’m no O line expert. Having a mobile QB should help them. You see the same thing play out in the NFL.Saban’s philosophy at Bama was a touch bigger guys who were still able to move their feet.

I think it is very telling that there is a long line of former Husker coaches who aren't snatched up by other Power 4 conference teams when they leave. I don't think Butler or Raiola have signed with another team yet.

They don’t have to work this year. They’ll get jobs.

I believe Coach Raiola taught the open step (1st step backwards) to use on some running plays, maybe most plays. A lot of guys do not teach that. I would think that the K.I.S.S. philosophy applies here as does just having an aggressive, attack mode mindset with your line. But then again, Iowa teaches the open step and it works for them. They put guys in the league every year. With Iowa, it comes down to great teaching and repetition. Not changes things up continually.
