This doesn’t make sense if Brandt red shirts and Nini goes down to 141 who’s gonna be the 149? Magro?
I thought we heard Brandt won’t RS?? This is assuming 5 for 5 hasn’t passed yet and then there would be no RS at all.
It’s gotta be Magro. Crackers said to mark his words.. I’m confused why any freshman would RS (if they could try and start) with 5 for 5 certainly going to pass at some point…
Crackers has lost all credibility so I don’t care what he thinks. My guess is if he redshirts it’s because he got hurt a few weeks ago and maybe it’s somewhat serious. Dunnigan is a quality wrestler who got stuck in a logjam at Penn. I think he’ll be a fine starter for now.
Until the 5x5 rule passes I don’t think athletes should consider it a factor. Still some unknown regarding who is going to be grandfathered in and to what extent, plus when will that rule take effect.
Isn’t the looming 5x5 rule the reason Okie state and PSU wrestled Jax, Duke, Vega, Robideau as true freshman? Just in case it does passes they have a chance to be a 5x AA instead of RS and, then have it pass, only to now have a shot of being only a 4xAA? I thought this was part of the logic of wrestling them as a true freshman—to gain that extra 5th year that they woulda lost had they RS.
But yeah if you are hurt, or can’t make the starting lineup then it makes sense to RS until 5x5 passes(which u lose a year anyways), but if your able to wrestle and the best available wrestler then doesn’t it make sense to wrestle over RS at this point?
3 of those guys won nationals titles so 5x4, 5x5, whatever the rule is they made the right decision so I’m not entirely sure that’s the primary reason. Those guys were/are elite so might as well go for it since who knows what the future holds.
I agree that in this era, redshirting doesn’t make sense from the schools perspective. Why waste a year developing a kid when he can just bail whenever he feels like it. However, from the wrestlers perspective, it makes sense if that’s the route they want to go for development, injury, whatever. Until the 5x5 rule passes obviously.
Because DT told them he believed they could win nationals championships right now. Not my words DTs, when Jax and DT reviewed Jax leaving HS early DT told him he could win now. That teams mindset starting with the coach is completely different from RUs mindset, granted they were elite freshman, but their mentality is win now, and what do they need to do so. Also they aren’t trying to be 4xAA , each one of them said after winning DT said it’s great you won NCAAs, now go get 3 more. Not trying to be AAs, not even just national champs but best in the world. Looking at their current roster most of their weights go 2 and 3 deep with AA caliber wrestlers, I don’t think they were thinking about 5x4 or 5x5, they are building a machine that can beat PSU today. And next year might be that year.
It’s not about being a 4x or 5x AA goal.. or Rdy now or not rdy.. I thought part of the reason he wanted them out there was bc he didn’t want them to waste a year(in RS) if they can compete for 5 years. Why else would they want to rush Jax out there for half a year when he can easily RS + wrestle 4 more years. It’s so he can get in that 5th year.. otherwise it’s probably not worth it to rush to wrestle half a year +3 more. I thought that’s what I heard as to the reason when DT wanted to rush Jax in time into the lineup second semester to not waste it.
I haven't lost any credibility. I was wrong one time ...well , half wrong and you beat that situation like you beat your pud. Also,You're some nobody with nowhere near my wrestling experience. You never All American'd, you never won a state title , and you where never an all academic ECAC, So as always, be quiet you flea bag.
Because you seeing it as rushing, and he sees it as you can win now. Watch the interviews and his comments, they discussed. Simple question do you think I can win a national championship now, DT told him he could do it, they said let’s go. He didn’t leave HS to redshirt. Again the whole mentality of that program is so fundamentally different from how people here think it would seem incomprehensible to you. It’s about the toughest challenge to become the best wrestler in the world … what would winning another HS championship do for his development nothing. Go test yourself. He put the guys that were ready on the mat , end of story. Win now, not tomorrow, cause tomorrow is not guaranteed.
No not rushing? I said he did it to get in the extra 5th year to wrestle. Winning now or not it was to get in the 5th year that was my point.. ur spewing it into a spheal if can win now.
Brandt is registered for the U23’s this weekend. Did he get hurt after registering or was the decision that redshirting is in his best interest? Hopefully, decisions are made in what is best for him in the long term.
That's good he's entered as he was injured after his high school season. Anyone know why Knox isn't entered? A bit surprised by that.
My gathering Brandt broke his ankle before dapper Dan. The conversation I had was he indeed is going this year and ready to go. He’s wrestling up at 70 kg at u23 so he can get bigger for 149 this year.

Knox doesn’t need too. If Luke Lilledahl beats Spencer Lee then the U23 spot is Knox if he chooses to take it . If Lee wins LL can wrestle off Knox for the spot

just a depth move but Frank Dibella transferred in from Virginia Tech. NJ guy , 6-14 career record all at 157.
Luke will get the spot if he wants it. Duke won Final X last year and was the u23 rep. Doesn't matter if Luke wins or not it's his spot if he wants it
I doubt he would with SRs being after U23. Not sure where @NJwrestling26 got a wrestle off could happen that would be news to me.
I think what he’s saying is if LL beats Lee then LL would be the SR rep and therefore wouldn’t wrestle U23, making Knox the default rep in that age bracket.
He said if Lee wins Lilledahl can wrestle off Knox for the spot. Unless something has changed recently since they released the criteria that's not true
Good for you Crackers. Go for it. I am fine for 85 years old. In great shape for that age and still playing golf. Running a Hall of Fame golf outing for the 24th year in 2+ weeks with some RU coaches playing. Still have all my original parts which is a big plus!
I have thought about it , but i'm too busy with my business right now. It's really gotten crazy. I wouldn't even know what weight I would go at this point

I could easily do this in perpetuity as I wouldn't even be touching the principle. Then make up shirts for the name the psu/Iowa boards come up for me and hand them out during the match against them.
