Nothing like celebrating our American heroes by enjoying the wonderful outdoors with family and friends.

We had a great day on the boat at Morris Island yesterday. 3 families on the boat and met up with another dozen or so on the island. Great weather and isolated from the crowds since it’s not accessible by land. Pool and cookout at a friend’s house after.

This morning, kids have been out catching bait in the creek with friends. We will probably take another couple of families out on the water. Probably another cookout tonight at our house.

Two pool parties tomorrow. Stopping by one at hobcaw yacht club for a bit before heading over to a friend’s event nearby.

In addition to honoring our fallen heroes, Memorial Day is always a great official kick-off to summer. God bless the USA!

Finally had some time to get the yard ready for summer yesterday. So pretty much spent yesterday doing yard work. Got to enjoy a few cocktails by the fire last night though while the kids all had a couple friends over.

Today we are going for a hike then going to an avalanche watch party tonight. If the avs lose they are as good as done.

tomorrow we will probably get another hike in in the morning then we might go to the fort Logan national cemetery. It’s just down the road but it is a sombering experience. We will be grilling surf and turf and playing some corn hole tomorrow night. Ribeye and salmon.

As a kid this was absolutely the best day of the year. School's out and our small town hosted one of the biggest fastpitch softball tournaments in eastern Iowa. Our dads held their own against the likes of Davenport, East Moline and Cedar Rapids. No ringers, just locals. Chasing down foul balls for a nickel ( which would be enough for a pop or popcorn ), trading baseball cards, lighting off Black Cats, whitling sticks, riding bikes down to the river to check throw lines, catching crawdads for bait and building treehouses. Life was great in the early 60's. Then Vietnam...

Had a big party for my nieces high school graduation Friday, bunch of family over yesterday and about 20+ people pool party today. Today’s menu is ribs, cornbread, coleslaw, corn on the cob, peach cobbler and more. Temperature should be 80-85 degrees and pool is heated.

Lots of booze, maybe a bit of weed.

Going to be a good day.

Last night dinner at a small local Italian restaurant. Today hit some golf balls and swam in the pool, with ribeyes to be grilled in the next couple of hours which have been rubbed with garlic paste and anchovy paste all day. Tomorrow more swimming and grilling brats and burgers.

Spent Wednesday to Saturday in Madrid, caught the bullet train to Barcelona Saturday early afternoon, visited La Sagrada Famila today, celebrated a birthday at a cool open air restaurant on the beach and headed to a private tour of Montserrat tomorrow.
But have you ever been to the happening town of Madrid (pronounced Maaadrid), Iowa?

It does have a cool bridge on the bike trail

It's a huge cemetery and it's beautiful. It has a ton of historic mosoleums and massive sculptures. Also the speed limit is like 10mph so it should be safe for walking. A ton of people in the neighborhood use it for walking/running since usually there are only ever like 2 cars in the entire place at a time.
