So, did all these great players sign to play for Auburn or for Butch?

Reason I ask, is if it is to play for Butch, would this group or the nucleus of this group being playing in Starkville had he been the choice to replace Lemonis? Or is it a unique situation where a bunch of really good ball players wanted to play at Auburn?

He is a good coach who has been there for a while and built a good program. But yeah they came to play for him.

I’m not even suggesting he would have been a better choice for us. He just seemed to have found a pipeline to some really talented baseball players. Most of his team will be back next year and probably be ranked in the preseason Top 3-4. Lineup full of Sophs and Frosh and a pitching staff loaded with Sophs. So my point is he probably would have been as good a choice for State, But…. He might would have just stayed at Auburn based on the team he had for this year..

TAMU has a kid playing in the infield with a fractured ORBITAL SOCKET. We have guys out who "don't feel right". That's all.
I’ve been saying this all year. Severe lack of toughness and heart. We have no leaders. Our guys choose to sit and just get paid. How many have we had out for “dizziness” or like you said, “not feeling right”?

We have a team that is good not great, but we are dangerous team with players that need to "make plays". Winning 40 games in the Sec is a good thing. JWS summed it up when he said, "Coaches have to put players in the position to win BUT players have to make the plays"!

Auburn baseball is much more attractive than MSU baseball. Hard pill situation. But they sit in a great geographic position for recruiting baseball and they have some historically great players in their history. We have some advantages but not nearly as many as we like to think. But Auburn is killing it as a whole university and players might like to go somewhere where there’s more going on than baseball.

You do realize that players are getting paid these days, right?

So are ours. But ours aren’t as good as theirs. Who has the better baseball pedigree? That is why I ask if they signed to play for Auburn or for Butch.
Maybe Auburn has a bigger budget. It used to be that only the elite college players were playing for the name on the back of the jersey, not the front. Now its almost all of them.

It's Butch. He's one heck'uva coach. I would've taken him in a heartbeat and he would've taken the job if offered. They are going to be hell on wheels the next two years with the youth that team has. Easily preseason top 5.

I will say I think our pitching would be better with butch. Our hitting probably wouldn't be where it is, that said butch still hasn't won it all or been to Omaha as much as oak. What we need is better pitching. If this team had two more pitchers worth a dang we would be elite. But we didn't develop arms and had a bad injury. We are missing that shut down guy out of the pen for late innings and a reliable 5 inning guy when you starter ain't cutting it. We haven't seen that with Parker

I watched the Saturday Vandy game in LFL next to an Auburn alum. He said, “we have nothing remotely like this at Auburn“ for baseball.

And yet somehow, they are getting good players and have been hosting regionals over the last 5 years. Mystery. Almost like having a big stadium isn’t the only factor. Real head scratcher.

Well to be fair, Auburn is the friendliest village on the plain.

seriously, I work a few times per year in Auburn/Opelika and Columbus, Ga.

Auburn is a great college town but even more so a great place to raise a family with the second or third highest rated school system in Alabama. The area has lots to offer including a very nice recreational lake and riverfront within 20 miles.

of course we do have a very nice baseball stadium and Dave’s Darkhorse Tavern working for State.

I do think oconnor was an awful hire but Auburn baseball isn’t on the same planet as msu baseball in terms of tradition, fan support, game day atmosphere, etc… oconnor very well may be a dud and Auburn coach legit, but let’s get real.

Auburn, AL is a vacation destination and cultural hotspot said nobody on planet earth, EVER. Their baseball program to msu is like southern miss football is to Ohio State football.
