OK, maybe this is the second greatest rock ‘n’ roll song

I’m not much of a Stones fan really, but I am shocked to realize I have made it through 55+ years of life and have no recollection of ever before hearing (or hearing of) this song.

Now watch… somehow it will probably come onto my radar three more times in the next week alone.

Stairway, followed by Free Bird
This is why it's impossible to rank them. You can make an argument for dozens of epically great songs. Gimme Shelter does it for me, mainly because I still react to it every single time I hear it. The same can't be said for many of the others, even though they are masterpieces without question.

Any of you guys grow up in eastern PA and remember the WZZO Z95 annual rock polls? For best song all time, every single year you could count on Stairway to Heaven and Freebird being the top 2. Third place was usually random depending on the time, like Hells Bells, The Grand Illusion, Crazy Train or something like that.

I first saw the Stones live in 1964. It's my opinion that Sympathy and Gimme Shelter are their two best songs.

But is there really a "better" song than Jimi's version of All Along the Watchtower? I don't think so.

Nothing against the Stones but that wouldn't be my pick. There are so many songs and the top 10 lists are subjective.

A couple of years ago my wife and I were in a bar/restaurant that had a very good musician who was playing songs from the late 60s to the early 80s. I looked at her and asked what our kids were going to do when they get old because their music sucks.
