Ricketts is the best coach on campus and we need to do everything we can to keep her until Gasso retires from Oklahoma and the Sooners call her home.

Big task today at Noon on ESPN2. Oklahoma is very very good at the plate but doesn't have elite pitching. We have two pitchers that are in the top 10 for whiff percentage so those swinging bats from Oklahoma could get tested.

Do we go with Faircloth or Goold today?

I think you go with your #1 and that’s Goold. But either will give us a chance. We’re big underdogs no doubt but a good hitting somewhat questionable pitching team actually sounds like it might be a good matchup for us. Or at least as good as a matchup at Oklahoma can get. I’d rather face that than great pitching not as great offense.

Ricketts has done a really good job with the program and she is to be congratulated on getting the team to their 2nd super regional ever. No way could I put her above O'Connor at this point though as the best coach on campus or even Matt Roberts, our tennis coach. I mean the softball team still finished 10th in the SEC at 9-15 this season.

Ok. Help me out here. I don't watch any softball. But Faircloth through a no-hitter last weekend. And another gem to close the regional down.

And she's not the ace?

Goold is no longer the #1. She hit the wall/got figured out about 2/3 through the season.
It's not going to matter who we throw anyway, we aren't winning that super.

1A. 1B. only kidding.... I would say Faircloth became the ace through the year. Goold was the Ace at the beginning of the season.

The SEC is tougher in Softball than any sport. Take a look how many are in a super. It's crazy! And Oak was good at VA, he's yet to do anything here.

Wait - You don't think Oak has done anything here yet?

He's going to host a regional in his first year. Had us ranked top15 the entire season. Got Parker and Bauer to campus. And you don't think that's anything?

Goold is 2nd team all American, 10th pick in pro draft & slightly lower ERA. We really have two #1s. Really good ones.

You and I could get State to a regional. Name one coach that's never done that for us in baseball since Polk took the job.

Our real problem is we're the worst hitting team you'll ever see. Faircloth has really made a jump late in the season and Goold has fallen off. Both are good, but Faicloth has been next level good. OK can smash, so good luck to both off them. Walk Wells every time.

If you say you are disappointed in how the SEC slate went, that would be a valid thing. But to say he has done nothing here yet, is wild. Even if we bounce in the regional, we've had a really, really good year.

Beat OM 4 times too.

Well, we've been top 15 all year in baseball and are about to host a regional whereas we had to go on the road in softball. Our tennis team just finished in the Top 8 in the nation. But I don't want to downgrade anything Coach Ricketts has done because I think winning in softball at MSU is not an easy thing to do and she is doing a great job.

Peja has unbelievable spin and movement but I personally would NOT pitch her over Faircloth after last weekend’s results. I trust that Coach Ricketts knows what our best shot at this would be. Both will get a chance at it.

Softball is 10x more enjoyable to watch than baseball by the way. The players are 10x better to look at and the game is just more exciting. It’s definitely 100% the future so I support this thread.

“Until Oklahoma calls her home”….. sigh, always seems if we get a good coach in a non revenue sport there is someone waiting to poach them. Oh well, I’ll enjoy while I can. Go get em Dogs, nothing is impossible!

MSU has built an extremely nice softball facility and best is yet to come. If/when Coach Ricketts leaves we should be able to attract a very good coach imo

In the 64 team tourney era we’ve only hosted about once every 4-5 years (6 hosts in 26 years total), but please tell me more about how us hosting this year is a nothing accomplishment.

Agree, the commitment is in place to grow. It just depends on if/when this happens. Is what it is, we do have a good base to build on and that is promising. I am glad we have that commitment from donors.

That is inexcusable for Mississippi state baseball. We should be hosting every other year. And I think going forward we will be.

I have nothing to do this morning on a slow work day, and I admit I have not watched a game all season. So, for the softball gurus, and before I give my dad given my morning to this, do we have a chance? Or do we get rolled?

We will probably get beat. OU is in a league of their own. Their hitters vs msu hitters are like night and day. OU hitters focus solely on gym and exit velocity and it shows. Their hitters legs are like tree trunks. Incredibly talented team at the plate. We have NOTHING like them from a hitting standpoint. We do, however, have two starting pitchers that give us a fighting chance. When they’re on we can plate 2-3 runs and be VERY tough to beat. This is Oklahoma though. Definitely worth a watch imo but I love softball.

If you want to break it down like baseball (they are similar sports) picture an entire lineup of Ace Reese type hitters that are massive that’s pretty much OU softball. We have some Bryce chance type hitters and two not overpowering but at times extremely effective pitchers.

After watching my 1st game ever last weekend I think I qualify as an expert. We have a chance, but we probably get rolled.

The last two times we have played Oklahoma, we have jumped out to 4-0 leads. What happens with Oklahoma is that they will put up 2,3 or more runs in an inning just about every game. For State to have a chance, we have to keep them from doing that. We have the pitching that can give us a chance, but we have to score 4-5 runs to have a shot. Not winning a 2-0 game against a team that hasn't been shutout since the Clinton administration.

I'm watching Belhaven right now in Game 2 of their Super Regional. They are playing Oshkosh, who scored five runs in their three game Regional sweep (won 1-0, 2-1 and 2-1) with great pitching and weak hitting. Belhaven is like Oklahoma - they lead the nation in doubles and home runs. They are up 2-0 after two innings and have left five runners on base. Just one hit from breaking the game open both innings after winning 5-1 yesterday. Every inning is danger and eventually the hitters come through.

Good points. Texas coach said give me the better pitcher and I’ll win 70-80% of the time. Pitching is so crucial in this sport which makes me think we at least have a chance. MSU has a couple bats with some pop but nowhere close to OU. It’s definitely a long shot to knock them off.

In my view, it’s one of those situations we have absolutely nothing to lose. Hoping we give them a good game.

Of every team that has played oklahoma 6 or more times in the past four years - we're the only team to not get run ruled.

Last year was the first year in 5 years that OU did not win the natty.

This is a David vs. Goliath. If we want to win we need two 1-0 victories. We aren't winning a game where both teams are hitting.

Though the last time we faced Oklahoma in a stick and ball sport and had a random food to rally around, we belt to *** them circa rally banana 2018. (L 10-20 (no banana), 13-5 (banana begins), 8-1 (banana rises))
