The thing is, those tickets were already sold. People paid money for those seats and when they heard CC wasn’t playing tonight they decided “Screw it, I’m not even going to bother fighting traffic.”
Maybe 10k in the seats?

They started with 3,264 UNSOLD tickets.

17,274: Capacity of Gainbridge Fieldhouse, for basketball games.

14,010: Announced Attendance (total tickets sold & distributed)

Scanned tickets (actual butts in the seats) was obviously a LOT less than 14,000.

Folks who were at the game estimated around 9,000 in attendance. The fans are getting it with the organization.

The men's college game is okay but the NBA has become non-watchable. All they do is dunk, play little or no defense, and chuck up 3's after which they celebrate for at least ten seconds.

Why would you let an opponent know who is and isn’t playing if you don’t have to?
You do have to. WNBA requires teams to submit injury reports by 5 pm the day prior to their game. CC didn't practice the day before their game v. Portland. She should've been listed on that injury report instead of announced 90 minutes before tip. Bush league move by Indiana.

An Australian woman who sat next to Clark's family at the game vs the Fire stated that she overheard the trainer tell Clark's mom that she was not playing because of her back. Clark's family was unaware as well, according to her account.

Or 5:00 p.m. the day before she felt okay to play and woke up the next morning not okay to play. That can happen so surprised It needs explained.

What are the fever doing? Not listing Clark on the injury report when she misses practice the day before a game? Scratching her not even 2 hours before the game?

They got in trouble for it.

WNBA warns Fever for leaving Caitlin Clark off injury report

The WNBA issued a warning to the Indiana Fever after star Caitlin Clark was not initially listed on the team's injury report but was a late scratch because of back soreness shortly before their game Wednesday against the Portland Fire, the league told ESPN on Thursday.

Fever coach Stephanie White said before the Fire game that Clark woke up Wednesday with stiffness and soreness in her back and that
she did not practice Tuesday, instead getting treatment and going through workouts after practice.

WNBA teams are required to report player injuries, illnesses and absences -- as well as their participation status -- by 5 p.m. local time THE DAY BEFORE all games. The first public indication that Clark was dealing with any back concern came 100 minutes before the Fever's 90-73 win over the Fire.

White said Wednesday that she did not expect the Fever to get fined for not initially listing Clark on the injury report Tuesday night or updating it earlier Wednesday.

"Not everybody that doesn't practice or gets a pro day is on the injury report," White said. "That happens all the time. And she wasn't listed on the injury report earlier because we expected her to play."

Clark has since been listed as probable ahead of Indiana's game Friday night against the visiting Golden State Valkyries. The Fever did not hold a formal practice Thursday.

She clearly didn't feel "ok" the day before Wednesday's game.

Again, she did not practice with the team on Tuesday; instead, she was getting treatment on her back.

No, they don't have to.

They are supposed to, and face possible ramifications if they don't (like the stern written warning they got in this instance), but they don't have to.

They held her out of practice the day before. Would seem weird to hold her out of practice if she felt ok to play.

A warning. Oh no! The Fever admins need to convene an emergency meeting!

Notice that reports do not indicate a ~stern~ warning or, god forbid, the dreaded Cathy Engbert finger wag. The Fever dodged a bullet……for now.

OK, I will respectfully disagree with “would mop the floor“. I have worked a number of basketball camps over my years and the coaches often stayed and played after the campers were done. I played against some NCAA D2 women’s players and was greatly surprised by their strength and athletic ability. I’m pretty sure the WNBA players would mop the floor with those players. My point is it’s hard to judge the quickness, strength, and ability until you have your shoes on and are on the floor with them. Please don’t sell these athletes short and disrespect their abilities. Just an old guys two cents.
A group of 15 year old boys beat the best women’s soccer team on the planet and it wasn’t close.

but go ahead and ignore that also.

I would expect a professional basketball player to make basically uncontested layups. The women miss a dozen of those a game.

I also would expect them to catch passes that hit their hands.

it’s not better basketball or how the game should be played.

watching Clark and women’s basketball for the first time I was shocked at how poor the product actually is.

little league baseball is usually determined by the team that gives up fewer walks add commits less errors. Women’s basketball is usually determined by the team that misses the least amount of bunny shots.

It hit the Fever in the pocketbook going forward. Fans know the Fever admins can't be trusted and lie to get their money.

Loss of ticket sales, concession sales and merch.

If you've been watching you'd know the league doesn't do much of any punishment after watching CC get knocked to the ground so many times her first season any nothing happened.

They may have screwed themselves over if CC can't play with regularity or has to hang it up. They can go back into obscurity.

Here is one of the 15 year olds from the Dallas Texas team that beat Carli Lloyd's Olympic team 5-2. 😆

Also....
“We actually lost to a youth Bayern Munich team in my career as well but then we went on to win Olympics and World Cups. So…..”

You're absolutely correct. Knowing that Engelbird won't do anything, let the paying fans decide.

That was a good point made by you regarding the boys soccer team. I don’t believe I am ignoring anything however. Just stating my experience and opinion. You can jump all over it as you wish and I’m not on this forum to debate. I am comfortable with my opinions and have been helped by not wallowing in negativity. I realize that any sport is not played perfectly. I choose to find the beauty (in my mind) of the women’s game and not dwell on the weaknesses. I have found I enjoy life and the game much better. For those things that I find myself complaining about or not enjoying I choose not to watch or participate in. That’s just how I roll, for me it’s best.

Exactly. It's always funny to hear from the ones who don't care about women's basketball, don't watch women's basketball, aren't impressed by women's basketball, etc., engaging in message board threads about women's basketball and putting up lengthy posts about why they don't care about women's basketball, don't watch women's basketball, and aren't impressed by women's basketball. Lol.
