Our 2027 class is shaping up to be our best class in many, many years. I sure hope we can scrape together the NIL money to keep all these guys happy and content to come to Lincoln. Recruiting has always been a cutthroat business, but it is now exponentially worse. Kudos to Geep Wade! He may turn out to be our best assistant coach hire in a long time.

I am still not a fan of Rhule. I still think he is a lousy coach. But since we are stuck with him we can at least hope that given enough time he can get the right coaches in place, retain them, and turn this thing around finally.

Here is to hoping! But the sad reality is I think Rhule doesn’t like to be outshone. So he runs off coaches who begin to steal his limelight. So I suspect that Wade will not be here long. But who knows? Maybe this is the start of something big.

This kid’s offer list is impressive.

Geep is looking a big upgrade over Donny.
Not that I disagree with this, but, I can't recall many assistant hires over the past decade (maybe longer) where the initial sentiment wasn't the new hire being an upgrade over the old one. Butler replacing White is the main one I can think of off the cuff. An indictment on the crappy initial hiring decisions our HC's have made or the fan base drinking the koolaid - or maybe both?

Let's see how these kids actually play before we start making claims that a coach is better. I'm done with the hype from anybody. Earn it on the field like Emmett Johnson did. Matt Rhule might be the best hype man I've ever heard, but so far when it's time to actually coach against other guys on game day, he looks like he's still learning.

Loved Geep the moment I heard him. Just watch his GT group. Those guys play hard and move people. He SHOULD be able to do better here. Easily my favorite coach in the staff.

Hope you’re right but I’m reserving judgement. Close look at his resume and he looks very Rhule-esque. Georgia Tech mostly beat nobody with a pulse. And their OL had a first round NFL draft pick on it. And looking back further at Geep’s career, it’s a very long drawn out bunch of nothing. Sorry, but I’m not falling for that surface success fools gold bit again. Upgrade from Donnie? Sure but that’s not saying much.

How about hiring nobody over Ekeler?

Nothing wrong with that. I get it. I just love everything I've seen so far.

It at least gives us hope that things can get better. Rhule has floundered with his staff hires since day one. Maybe the only good thing from that extension is that it probably improved his chances of attracting better assistants.

I hated seeing Ekler go as well. If it's true Ek wanted to coach LBs also I guess I kinda get it. Was the new DC already hired yet or no? We know Rhule loves the LB coach and Aurich coaches LBs as well. That would definitely be overkill. I love Eckler but do you fire Dvoracek or whatever his name is??

Tough one...tell u what tho if our special teams suck this year HCMR will never live that one down lol.

ST has to at least be an area of concern this fall but it’s not like they were flawless last season.

Flawless? Of course not but let's not down play the job they did. They were clearly a good unit. Something they haven't been in a long time.

They were much better. Still some mind numbingly stupid plays some of which were Ek’s decisions. Mainly return stuff.

I guess it's all relative. But most if not all Husker fans would take what we got from special teams last year. It's not gonna be flawless or perfect.

If what was said by our HC about offering Eckler a contract that would've made him a top 3 ST coach in the country id venture to say he felt the same way .
