Going to be a solid roster. A good coach has this team at least on the bubble. Let's see what pike can do with them.
Its too soon to determine if the mens basketball team will even achieve a winning season because there are so many new players.

And it affirms the approach of taking it on the chin last season to rebuild the core.
I think they just have more money to work with in the portal this year. As well as a gm...roster is looking like everyone on it can contribute. If you're a starter, you will have earned it. Especially if they bring in another pg as well. Have to see them play though but i already like the new pieces and positional size of them...

For sure. I don’t want to endure another one of those, but returning half the squad is huge as we basically returned 3 players the last 2 seasons. Finally having money to address the needs and pay the guys we wanted to keep is big - and if Pike can show he can still win, it’ll be easier to attract more talent in the future.

I can’t imagine we’re bringing in another guard at this point. If we add any more, it should be a kid whose specifically known for defense. Best defensive player available with the money we have. I’d think that’s the next pivot move if any. We have enough guards who could play the point guard positions in different situations to hopefully make it work. Darren Smith Jr has handling and distribution skills. We’re hoping Tariq can do it. Lino and J-Mike are natural PGs by position. And now we added another combo guard with length who might be able to help with ball handling. We could really use someone who is truly a plus defender. We have some poor defensive players and a collection of guys who range from mediocre / servicable to slightly above average.

I was thinking about that of from Italy they spoke of in the podcast but I guess this is his replacement. That Italian guy looked good.

This would seem to be Pikes best get of the portal this year

Maybe - but Sydnor could be a really interesting addition too. Remember - he’ll be two college offseason conditioning seasons in a strength room removed from averaging 6.8 rpg as a frosh. And he’s 6-8.

Look - there’s a lot of work still to be done, and the bar for improvement year over year was very low to start. But that said, even if we make no further additions - our day one options 1-5 are without question, light years ahead of what they were heading into last preseason.

Still think we could use one more versatile defensive piece but probably wishful thinking at this point.

I still like Gurdak the most but this is definitely a great pull and much better than the names (Ty Rodgers, James White, and Skylar Wicks) we've been hearing about the last couple of weeks.

Now it's put up or shut up time for Pike. If he can't at least get this group to the bubble of a 76 team tournament he's toast

Im fearing there is some catch with Jones that we landed him

Bigs Gurdak, Buca, Ware
Forwards Buchanan, Smith, Sydnor, Jones, Duarte
Guards Francis, JMike, Mark, Powers, Wooten

Do I have it right?
No. Positions don’t matter. The roster has too many potential ball-handlers so Shelby brings up again that Layup-Blocked Davis shouldn’t get much run.

Seems more likely there’s a connection between our staff and Coach Gray we are currently not aware of. Did Gray overlap playing years with Brandin? Maybe AAU? Total guesses, but this one seems like the coach might’ve played a role of influence in where Jones landed. Jones redshirted for Gray at WC stepped down to DII but then went back to play for Gray 2 years ago. Almost transferred last year but decided to stay loyal to Gray and Coastal.

I have no inside info but my gut tells me coach relations in some capacity played a role in this one.

Dude, you are making him out to be an all american. He's solid, it's not like he was hands down Coastal's best player.

Who said All American? We’ve had trouble in the NIL era landing guards (Harper doesn’t count due to inside connection) with this type of length that don’t play in an NEC level bad conference. He was clearly very important to his team as he logged the most minutes out of everyone.

Agreed! Does he play the 1 or the 2?

Interesting roster decisions to be made. Does Tariq go back to his 6th man role? Does Pike have the fortitude to cut Lino and Jmike minutes at the PG?

Options are a good thing !

He was important, just laughing at BAC's fear of back story as a reason we got him. As if it's a huge upset he chose RU. He portaled last year and ended up staying, so no one over committed themselves then, why is it a shock the same happened this year.

He's a solid player. Decent from 3, decent defensively. Shoots free throws well. Evan Miya's BPR rated his impact on Coastal to somewhere between Dortch and Ogbole, not sure that that tells us.

I like the pick up, gives us an ability to score at the 2 at all times. and better length and depth. Not a great player inside the arc, seems to take some tough shots, but didn't force a ton. Be interesting to see how his game changes moving up.

Never said all american but his numbers are impressive on paper and yes a notch above the others coming in including one who has missed a year. Sun Belt is also a step above Maac in ability and competition. and This is the type of get late that surprises me for Pikes and "could" lead me to have some optimism for this season

Anything to upgrade the talent over players like Davis and Powers and Pike is doing that

Gonzaga was reportedly interested

He seemed to have come out of nowhere for Rutgers. Didnt seem the mods had any clue about him. Its an interesting get
