Personally, I have no problem with a young man who wants to play and is not likely to see the field here transferring.
You're exactly right. Players want to play. They should absolutely go where they have the best chance to get on the field. I hope Riley lands somewhere he can excel and I'll also bet our coaches will help him find that place, too.
This illustrates how hard it is to get on the field at a program like ours. It is an absolute steel cage match to stand out enough to force the coaches to play you. A scholarship is merely an invitation to compete.
On another note, anyone who is under the impression that our coaches are not trying to develop pitchers beyond Caden, Walker, and a few others, take a look at the right hand picture that Riley posted on his X page. That is a printout of his pitch data that details not only what his pitches are doing but coupled with guidance from Coach Gaines and Coach Howell it provides a practice plan for him (or any pitcher) to reach the point where the coaches feel he or any other pitcher will achieve success in a game. Every pitcher on our staff knows their numbers. The coaches have a good feel for what those numbers need to be to maximize success on the field and each pitcher works to get to that point. This data along with video and scrimmage performance is tracked from the time they set foot on the field their first year to the time the leave Chapel Hill.
