Would going 5-7 or 6-6 be worse than going 4-8 or worse?

Going 6-6 in this 9 game conference schedule, I think we would keep Lebby. I wouldnt want to keep him, but I wouldn’t be THAT against it if we did. But I’d still think we would just be in purgatory long term.

What I’m worried about is going 5-7. This would still likely mean we had three wins against some combination of Minnesota, Vandy, South Carolina, Auburn, Missouri. I mean our administration might look at that and say okay we beat the two cupcakes, lost to 5 top 15-20 teams, and then went 3-2 in those five toss ups. I honestly think they would consider keeping him with that as well.

I think you have to retain Lebby if we go 6-6 especially given it is the first season of the 9 game SEC schedule plus the Power 4 game. 6-6 in 2026 just will not be the same as 6-6 any previous season.

This could be a challenging year for Selmon. Lebby is on the hottest of hot seats & Jans' seat is at least lukewarm. I don't think anyone wants to replace their football & men's basketball coaches in the same school year.

I think if we retained him at 6-6 the next year (2027) we’d be hoping for 7-8 wins. You still couldn’t expect to be in playoff contention coming off a 6 win year.

TN Tech, ULM, and Minnesota non-conference wins would be 3. To go 5-7 that would mean he only got 2 more wins in conference which in 3 years is only 3 total Conference games. He has to go if that's as good as it gets in 3 seasons.
