Pope and staff getting after it. Like it. Cast a wide net and don’t focus on a couple players. Staff is working hard.
Now close on some compatible players.

And Pope don’t do such good coaching job with the bigs like Malachi! Took him from a raw projected 3rd team center to being in the talks of NBA. Did a good job with Amari Williams as well.

Big year ahead for the UK program and coaches. Seems like they got the message and are pushing. Got to elevate. I’m in for one more year. Guards look good. Have some bigs and wings. Could still use a couple more wings. Looks like he got team oriented guys that relate to his mindset and less me guys. Good with that. Fits the UK player profile over the years and his mentality.

in a way i get it. it is probably a normal approach to recruiting if you are regular coach/program. cal had the total opposite approach. he gave out very few offers. if you got one....it was a badge of honor and kids knew that. cal was an all time great recruiter so i dont think many can pull it off. but pope is handing out offers like sunday coupons.

I really don't see how Pope will have much at all in the Nov. period.
All rival coaches will be telling kids( and parents) not to jump at a UK offer because you might not be playing for the staff that's recruiting you.

He wasn’t getting anyone of note when he wasn’t on the “hot seat”, and he sure as heck isn’t when everyone knows he’s definitely sitting on it!

This is why you don’t give complimentary seasons to coaches in the NIL era that are publicly trying to save their jobs!

That's about as fake news as it comes, here are Cals last 5 years recruiting and offer totals
2019: 22
2020: 21
2021: 17
2022: 16
2023: 19

This isn't a new strategy its what all programs do and currently we only have 13 offers to 2027 players.

(and yes I see the satire of OP, I'm only responding to the comment I quoted because its not a true statement and I get tired of embellishment to push narratives)

To me thats the most obvious reason not to commit to a school.
You want to know that the coach recruiting you is going to be there.
Pope with a 63% winning percentage and possibly starting the season outside the top 25 definitely gives plenty of ammunition to the narrative that Pope won't make the cut for a year 4 at UK.
Rivals will spin it as Pope being in the exact situation Hubert Davis was in and the outcome will likely be the same .

maybe i misspoke.....where the final offer totals 22 and 21, yes. but on day 1 of the spring period 22 offers did not go out. when the year is finished and the 17 players pope offered say no....it will be in the 40s.

if a coach gets fired you just go to another school. you are released from whatever you sign and the world is your oyster.

its about style, fit, relationships, and whether or not the coach is going to get you to the NBA. a big time successful coach is just as likely to be poached for the nba but that does not stop guys from going to uconn or florida.

i went bass fishing Sunday and cast about 100 times. Didn't catch a damn thing, but I got a lot of casts in. I'm a helluva fisherman.

I'll give pope credit. at least he realizes he needs to land a few guys as the summer ends. as a result he isnt holding back offers. whether or not it works and he lands a few guys is to be determined.
