Good grief.

“far better than Lamont Butler”

What is going on? Are we trying to out stupid ourselves these days.
I'd sign up for a healthy Butler from here on out.

The injury is distorting some views.

No, he isn't the best possible PG but he sets such a high floor on both sides of the floor that I would happily take the ceiling cap and build around him at the spot every year.

We have some many trolls here though posing as fans it is hard to tell.

Besides that, anyone calling Zoom terrible is simply stirring the pot because they onow that is not true. He may not be all SEC (remains to be seen) but he is far better that Lamont Butler & he worked out well.
Let me be clear that I never said Zoom is terrible. I just called out your asinine opinion that he’s far better than Butler. You can have your opinion but sometimes opinions can be insanely stupid. Butler was a great “college” PG. If Zoom even comes close to that, we’ll be lucky. Again, not dogging on Zoom, just that Butler was a REALLY good college PG.

It's an indictment of the roster overall. Zoom with Stokes, a 4 like Freeman, a shooter like Momcilovic, and the rest of the cast we have now, is a good team and there aren't issues w/ him.

When you don't have any of that, a guy like Rob Wright and a few top HS guys (Holt, Collins, Crowe, Rippey, Kinney -- all guys we missed on) are needed for an acceptable blueblood roster.

This is UK basketball, not the make-a-wish foundation where mediocre and/or washed up players live their dream getting paid millions.
Fair argument to a different discussion but not to the statement “nobody wanted him”.

I might have missed it, but I do not think the OP was saying Diallo is terrible. I think he was just sharing what is being said.

And how do we know he is better than Lamont Butler? I actually thought Butler was solid when healthy.

I hear you and I tend to agree that our roster isn’t what it should be. But to say having the #1 HS player, the #1 and 2 PF’s in the portal (including the best shooter), the #6 PG in the portal and the rest of our additions would make just a “good team” is ludicrous. The HS targets we missed on are unacceptable especially in pursuit of a kid that clearly didn’t want to be at UK. But no singular college team is raking in 5 stars left and right (other than Duke and even then they haven’t won a championship in a decade). I agree we’re not operating how we should, but we can’t say that this roster is objectively bad when they haven’t played a single second together.

ohhhhh, you burned him real good with that one.

Awww. Bless your little heart. Someone give this sensitive one a tissue.

Still don't see why some of y'all pile on people ...

She.

You "don't see" much. What, are you even 20? Maybe if you'd been watching sports for more than 12 years, you'd know why people don't like Franny, and why no one pays much attention to her anymore.

Thin skinned fanbase

Yankees are still one of the favorites every year. When was the last time UK was a favorite?

It’s not a bad point. I don’t think we are going the right direction especially this decade.

I would counter argue that we’ve been ranked in the top 10 at some point during every single season since the Yankees last World Series win and as high as 4th in 11 of the 17 years.

I don’t think we’ve been UK good nor have the Yankees been up to their standards.

Back in my day we sent our cast offs to Washington, not the other way around.

We may yet add a difference maker or two, but as it stands we have the least amount of talent I can remember since Pitino’s first season.
I'm not so sure about that. Our 2013 and 2016 teams were pretty low on talent.

Tubby had some teams that this team would handle easily too.

Yeah, Noel, Ulis and Murray were exceptional, but the supporting casts of those teams were not very good at all. They lost a lot of games against extremely weak schedules and 2013 ended up in the NIT. The SEC was trash back the too.

Meanwhile, Pope has played top 3 and top 4 SOS's his 2 years here and the SEC the last 2 years has been far better than it has ever been.

I get it, this team doesn't have future NBA all star talent, but tbh, high end freshmen talent hasn’t been winning college titles. Look at the teams winning titles, they're all built out of really good veteran college journeymen.

UConn had some good NBA caliber talent sprinkled in, which is ideal, but give me a team built like the last 2 title winners were.

Tubby never had a team this bad, and even his worst teams, which were his last two, won NCAAT games. This current roster is losing season bad.

He had several teams that stunk, especially his last 2.

Who is all this talent you’re speaking of? Prince, Rondo, Meeks, Crawford, Ramel… who else?

You don't even know how good these kids are going to be.

Last year was an awful year for Pope, he still got a 7 seed against the #4 SOS with no pg, that's far better than Tubby's last 2 teams and both of BCG's.

The backcourt we have for 26/27 is better than the 2 Billy had, better than several of Tubby's.

You guys are crushing our players before they even play a game. That's a new low, even for the grumpies on RR. Sheesh.

Magloire, Bogans, Fitch, Daniels, Azubuike, Hayes, and Morris were all multi year players that eventually played in the NBA, on top of Prince, Meeks, and Crawford who did as well.

9 of those 10 signed with Tubby.

This doesn’t even mention solid players like Hawkins, Estill, Sparks, Allison, Camara, and Jasper, who I’d take over anybody Pope has coming in next year.

You’re in for a rude awakening next year if Pope doesn’t land a stud like Momcillovic.

They all had a cup.of coffee in the NBA, nothing more and why do you think none of the guys on this team could do that? They have the size, length and athleticism to do it. you're looking at Tubby's players after the fact, you have no idea where these players eill end up.

, on top of Prince, Meeks, and Crawford who did as well.
Again, very short careers, we aren't talking about SGA here. Wilkins and Zoom could easily accomplish the same heights.

You're allowing your hatred of Pope cloud your judgment with this statement. You're comparing these players after their 4 year terms to the current players in year 1 here. Why would you do that?

No I'm not. I am taking it in stride and letting it play out. I'm not making any bold claims. If he bombs, he’s out, if he doesn't… yippee for us. Why can't you guys just let it play out? What exactly is on the line for you? Pope’s career is on the line, so it's all on him to figure it out, or not.

Jamaal Magloire was an All Star and played 680 games over 12 seasons. Keith Bogans played in 671 games over 11 seasons. Chuck Hayes played in 644 games over 11 seasons. Azubuike played 208 games in five seasons before a career ending injury. Meeks played in 539 games in ten seasons. Tayshaun Prince won a title and a gold medal.

I’ll grant that Fitch, Daniels and Morris didn’t have long careers but “they all had a cup of coffee” is some Pope Cope BS not born out by the facts.

and what did they do in college? How about SEC tournament champions in 98, 99, 01, 03 and 04. How about at least a share of the regular season titles in 1998, 2000, 2001, 2003, and 2005. Pope hasn’t sniffed a SEC title.

as much as you hate Tubby, his tenure total blows Pope’s sorry *** out of the water.

Compare the SEC from the Tubby years to today. It’s not even close. Those Tubby teams would get blasted in the SEC we’re seeing right now. That ball line defense would get shredded.

I'm not a Pope fan, I'm just calling out the digs that aren’t true. I call it out the other way too.

digs that aren’t true? Like saying half a dozen players that played in thousands of NBA games combined had a cup of coffee. You’re resting your laurels on a comparison that’s literally impossible to know. Rupp, Hall, Pitino, Smith, and Cal all won SEC titles and national championships IN THEIR ERAS. That’s all that can be asked of them or any athlete for that matter. Saying teams from a quarter century ago couldn’t compete today is something that could be said of any team, in any sport.

The SEC has been plenty tough many years.

The schedule is not Pope’s problem.

Pope is just not a good coach. That’s his problem.

No player development. No player conditioning program.

No game preparations. No game management.

No offensive identity.

No defensive identity.

Prone to just quit.

His recruiting problems are a direct tie to the above.

Pope has not even one strength as a head coach that can be identified.

His hiring may just be the biggest failure of any P5 school.

He’s turned college basketball’s crown jewel into a laughing stock.

Yet some UK fans defend him still.

You are literally doing the same thing when you say the guys on next years squad are the worst since before Pitino. They haven't even played a single game in a UK jersey yet.

Jesus man, give it a rest. You have some serious Pope derangement syndrome.
Pope could cure cancer and you would still talk about him like he is a worthless POS.
I get critisizing someone, but your critisisms ring hollow now.
