Mets are playing like they’d rather be watching the Knicks game. So that’s what I’ll be doing from here on out. Gross run prevention

Is it possible McLean just sort of sucks?
No, that is not possible. Mets fans may have put him in the HOF a tad prematurely though.

He has allowed nine runs. Three unearned. Four others were preventable if Morabito had made a play that a major leaguer is expected to make. This could easily be a 5-2 Met lead.

And Richard Lovelady gets the save. . . .

There is something we did not hear when he was a Met (or not much).

And McLean giving up 9 runs.

I don't agree with you with "a play a major leaguer is expected to make." I Zaprudered this play multiple times, and it was a tricky play. I would put that at 50/50, taking into account it was his first game in the majors.

I slowed the play down to 0.25 speed, stopped several frames. Seems he was near his high point in his leap, and his back just hit the wall. A lot going on with the body there to say he was expected to make that catch.

Morabito got quite a number of tests yesterday. Does he get a participation trophy for this catch that most MLB players may not be expected to make? This was phenomenal. He may want to wear hockey pads for his next start.

And every fan has an opinion, and this one is clearly wrong. You get the freaking out.

Had to look up Zaprudered. Interesting use of anthimeria, which you can now look up.

Re the inside the park HR, I will give Morabito partial credit for getting to the ball. Soto would not have gotten there. But this is the big leagues. If you get your glove on the ball you are supposed to catch it. Full stop. Morabito just plain missed it. He over jumped and the ball hit the heel of the glove. The wall had nothing to do with the drop. If he did hit the wall, which was not clear to me, the contact occurred after he had already dropped the ball. At least that's how I saw it.

I don't care that it was his first MLB game. Fielding is supposed to be consistent. If you are an above average fielder in AAA (as his 55 rating suggests), then you are supposed to be an above average fielder in the bigs - from Day 1.

Re the second play, I could argue either side of the issue. However, in Morabito's mind there is no decision to make. Unless he had somehow been directed to let a deep foul fly drop, then he's got to catch it. There is no way in the world he can unilaterally decide not to try to make the play.

He mistimed his jump. He should have caught the ball. He tried to jump and glide to the wall while tracking the ball. That is what made the play much more difficult. It wasn't a routine play, but it was a play an average fielder should make most of the time.

what the hell do you know about jumping and catching balls? And footballs are MUCH larger and easier to catch than a teeny little baseball. Harumph!! ;) 😂

Looks like I'm outnumbered here, but at my work, I'm known as the "soft" manager, letting things slide instead of clamping down. 🤷‍♂️

Morabito's butt and lower back slammed into that wall just as the ball was getting to his glove. He slammed so hard that his arms and legs both splayed. Maybe more experience at that park helps, maybe not. But that was a very good effort. The catch in the right field stands was terrific, and of course he catches it. I actually liked what I saw from him on those plays. I'm just not sure he's ready at the plate.

And if people are going to say Morabito should have caught that, Soto should have caught the Jacob Young home run, just like Jacob Young did it last year--scale the wall Soto, and you have that:

I’m greedy. Wanted 3 of 4 and could have had it if not for Tuesday disaster.

Next up - Marlins.

Hate them as they have had our number since they were formed !

Tobias Myers has been announced as the starter tonight. Whether he will go deep into the game, or is just serving as the opener for somebody else (Johan Tong?), I do not know. I do question how far Myers can go, as he has not been stretched out.

AJ Minter will be up soon, perhaps today. Kimbrel DFA?

Jared Young should also be back soon, if the Mets choose to do so. They don't have to, as he still has options. My guess is that they will, with Menendez (who also has options) going down.

It will be good to have AJ Minter available to actually play. I'd read that his velocity was down a tad, but nothing Manaea-esque. It will obviously help if he's effective. Kimbrel has not been.
