I knew you planned to be but didn't know when. I will purposely try scheduling our trip then. I sure would greatly enjoy meeting you! If I can, I will let you know ahead of time. Thanks!

Mr. Pidgie, I have a question, do you or other racers lose any of your birds during a race?Week four of our race season is completed.........we flew a 300 mile race Sunday.......I had three birds place in the premiums......I got 1st, 18th and 19th places......I have won every 300 mile race I have ever flown with this club.......my bird came in 5 hrs. 40 minutes.....the next bird was 2:03 minutes behind...........I will probably skip the next race (185) an focus on the 400 mile race in two weeks.........we fly our version of the KY Derby......we take the best average speed from 300, 400, & 500 mile race.........winning the first race puts me in the driver's seat.....I just need birds to get home in good time on the next two races.......hope remains eternal....no money involved just bragging rights and a nice plaque with results of the three races.....

Yes sir. Some races the loses are very high. We sent over 1,200 birds on a race last year and there were only 62 birds home on the day......One of my goals is to have a high percentage of returns. I had 17 of 25 that came home on this 300 mile race. Probably by the end of the week it will be 20-22 of 25. Sometimes they get turned around and confused. I had a bird circle around Smith's Grove for two days before coming home. It never got more than three miles from where I released them. With GPS we are starting to get a glimpse of where they go. I hope to live long enough for them to develop GPS that have live telemetry. I would be stuck at the screen watching them fly home......I have chased this mystery for over 65 years......Oh, by the way......it's Pidgie to you folks.....no Mr. needed.....it doesn't fit with my bib overalls.....![]()
Good morning folks. Another day in DC. Gonna be a hot one. I like to get to my office early in the summer. I’m near Pennsylvania Avenue, about half way between The Capitol and White House, and surrounded by museums (my subway stop is called Gallery Place) so tourists abound. Last night a couple buddies and I went to get a beer at a nearby restaurant, thinking it’s be quiet on Wednesday night, and there was a line of about 50 teenagers and their chaperones from Wisconsin standing in line, trying to get seated en masse. The National Guard presence has kept a lot of the bums away, so that’s a plus.
Pulling into the station. You all stay cool.
As a nation and as individuals, we often fail to realize how good we have it in the USA. We often don't realize what life is like in other parts of the world, how precious life is and how it can be taken from you in an instant. We must have worked close to each other when I was in the South Building at USDA for over five years. (Many of those are getting or have been dispearsed now...) A friend I had that used to work for me is still there though... He may be made to move but he is not sure yet.
Hello All,
Been at it this morning, woke up just after 8. Made a pot of coffee and took care of some regular items and have been dotting I's and crossing T's with paperwork I have had piled on my desk. My Darling made me some fruit and yogart "stuff" but if her finger touches it, it tastes good and I haven't taken a bite yet. Heck, my coffee went cold sitting next to me. Had to nuke it.
After I finish this, I will start on the inside today de-dusting for My Darling. When that is done, I may have other "work" items to do but those should be finalizations stuff and nothing going forward.
I AM thankful... Take today and hug it, love it, and share it with those you love....
