Trump cut medicaid. He cut ACA subsidies. He still has no healthcare plan. Yet we're supposed to be happy that he has a website that does nothing more than redirect people to manufacturer websites? Because that's all this TrumpRx bs does. It doesn't help pay for drugs or plans or anything else. All it does is take you to the manufacturer website. The whole thing is a joke.

This news is a major nothingburger. Generic drugs are already cheap as dirt at cash prices at most pharmacies, with or without insurance. I suppose at the end of the day congrats to Cuban, who has managed to get his platform (which, again, really only focuses on generics or older brands) to be able to piggyback on TRx. I also generally agree with Huey's point that TRx is sort of a joke, though not for the same reasons. (There is absolutely some value in having a clearinghouse that consumers can go to to access manufacturer offers, but the reality is that most of the offers available are generally not as good a deal as one's insurance copay, and too expensive for someone who doesn't have insurance.)

I don't have a particular problem with Medicaid cuts (it should be safety net rather than safety trampoline) or with Medicare D subsidies (which really just subsidized high cost drugs and disincented plan management of such drugs).

Actually a smart political move by Trump - if you don’t have any solution to reducing healthcare costs, create a marketplace for people who can’t google (ie, MAGA) so they think you’re lowering drug prices.

MAGA is such a joke.
I don’t think there is a solution.

you would need providers to except less money. Which means doctors and nurses taking less pay.

insurance is cheaper in other countries but they also are not as fat, make less money, and except longer wait times for things like MRIs. Per capita the US has triple the number as Canada for an example.

you can do the math on what the US spends on healthcare and tru and divide up who you want to pay more so others can pay less. I am sure politicians have and they got nothing.

most voters only want somebody else to pay more so they can pay less. Nobody really wants to decrease the cost.

why does a visit to a nurse practitioner cost the same as a visit to a full blown MD? The provider obviously saved money on their education but that savings isn’t passed along to the patient.

Key Cost Comparisons (US vs. Europe)
  • Overall Drug Prices: In 2022, U.S. prices across all drugs (brands and generics) were nearly 2.78 times higher than in OECD comparison countries.
  • Brand-Name Drugs: U.S. prices for brand-name drugs are exceptionally high, often cited as 422% of the prices in other high-income countries.
  • Specific Examples: Drugs like Humira have been found to be over 186% more expensive in the U.S. than in Germany and over 400% more than in the U.K..

There is a lot we can do but our govt has been sold to the highest bidder - corporations and billionaires.

We could eliminate processed foods from our diet (@scotchtiger has been rightfully beating this drum). We could charge premiums for those who smoke, are obese, or make other unhealthy lifestyle decisions.

We can also mandate that health insurance companies must be non-profit.

We can mandate transparency in healthcare pricing.

There is plenty we can do but a lot of people are making money off the inefficiency. Our money. Stolen under the guise of capitalism.

A lot of people are committing fraud against Medicare and Medicaid.

giving away ozempic for free would probably help.

bottom line, providers need to accept less payment.

also, if you look at percentages of people satisfied with their healthcare systems it is surprisingly low in France, Germany, UK, and Italy. I Assumed it would be like 85% thrilled since it’s basically free. Satisfaction rates are actually below 50% in some of those countries.

there is no easy answer. If there was, the democrats would have a detailed plan with tax rates and win elections like there is no tomorrow. Instead we get generic promises.

“promoting healthy diets “ in the US would cost billions and not a ******** thing would come of it. Everybody knows what is healthy and not healthy. Just try and tax obese people and people would scream some sort of discrimination. Hell, if you say boys should not play girls sports you are labeled at trans hater. Imaging saying fat people should be taxed more. lol.

An AI doctor that can legally diagnose and prescribe drugs is my hope. Basically go to Walmart and for a few dollars get examined by AI and robots. In theory AI would have instant access and knowledge of every medical case in recorded history to look for patterns and similar cases.

Disagree. Most Americans do not know that “diet” “low calorie” and “healthy” labeled foods in grocery stores are actually bad for them. Hell, most Americans think Caesar salads are healthy.
