My prediction is Facundo. Feel bad for him. He seems like a good guy but that’s just the way it goes.
Going to be real interesting to see how our lineup ends up this year. Lots of talent that won’t ultimately be in our starting lineup. Good problem to have. Competition makes you better.

2023 Cliff Keen as a true freshman he beat Brayden Thompson 14-7 then beat national champ Shane Griffith 4-2 and beat MJ Gaitan as well. seems to have been a little hit and miss but obviously lots of talent

I kind of look at things this way, every wrestler knows what the expectation are as far as the type of work and dedication needed to succeed. In the past two years we've have 5 different champions. Guys have to come in ready to compete, these coaches are going to give you all the support and opportunities to be as great as you possible can be. Look at someone like KD, the wrestler he was pre DT and the wrestler he was last year were complete different guys. But KD took the coaching, transformed his body and when the opportunity presented itself he wrestled his arse off. I have no clue what's going to happen at 165 this year, I just know that the kid who wants it the most and does the things necessary will be the one who ultimately wins the spot. I hope it's Dee because there hasn't been a recruit I wanted more in an OSU singlet more than I wanted Dee. Now the kid who wrestled last year was not the same one I'd seen throughout the years. We all do some growing up once we make it to college, hopefully this is the jolt Dee needs.

Hypothetically, Alex vs Nicco Ruiz? Im taking a big strong Facundo in that match up. Guy was small for 74 and went toe to toe with Minto and PK. Let me be clear, I like both guys so have them square off and the best guy goes. Might 100% be the best thing for Dee whether thats being pushed all year or sitting a year. Hell imo the ONLY reason Dee would consider leaving if he cant beat Alex is because some POS like Perry is s*cking him off behind the scenes which he tries to do consistently.

I think it’s hilarious how he apparently spent the whole NCAA weekend poaching major transfers and literally none of them ended up at ISU lol.
Dee's obstacle is how to keep motivation sharp for the match (people doubt me so I'll prove them wrong) and then what to do with that motivation in the match (I'm separating, or I'm keeping it close). When both are firing, he's dang near unstoppable. But sometimes he's not feeling it and you can tell.
I get wanting to bond with your friends and whatnot... but man you get to do that your whole life. Late nights and social circles don't stop when you're older. If anything, they are MORE fun when you're older.
It wasn't from lack of effort. Stanford raised some $. At 125 you guys were talking with both Provo and Robinson and could've had McCrone. After McCrone visited Provo entered the portal so McCrone looked elsewhere. Robinson then entered the portal but Provo had just visited Ames so Robinson looked elsewhere. Provo didn't like Ames and McCrone picks UNC and Robinson Nebraska and Provo stays at Stanford and you guys get Smith . Long story short they talk to everyone
Yeah I remember there were several reports that he had Knox, Cardenas, Garvin, and Norman from Stanford and Novak from Wyoming all “committed”. Cardenas and Novak never even entered the portal, Knox and Garvin stayed at Stanford and ISU didn’t even make Norman’s final 3 lol.

So what exactly is his position at ISU? I watched him some at Big 12’s and he was yelling at wrestlers but wasn’t seated on the mat like the other coaches. Metcalf is the guy now so he could have promoted him but didn’t? I know he is one of our own but it seems like he functions almost like a pimp at these tournaments.
He's happy being the fat alcoholic snake that he is as an RTC coach. Not being named to staff means he can do more and has no rules to follow.
And since all of ISU's practices are labeled as RTC practices, he can still coach in the room as well. He's just a Perry being a Perry.
Where do you get the idea the coaches are catering to Dee? Or are you whining about a hypothetical that hasn't and won't happen?
And go ahead and take the guy who was close to some good guys in his 5th year of college over a guy who actually beat good guys in his first year.

Your obvious preferences make you assume I prefer Alex to Dee. What I prefer is for this team to win an NCAA team title. What I prefer is to have the best guy go. And if that means its not Dee then the coaches SHOULDNT cater to him by having him start anyway if he starts talking about leaving. A scenario which has been discussed previously on this forum (hopefully unnescessarily). And Dee beating Caliendo was huge but we saw THAT Dee fade as the season progressed. Based on NCAA placings his next best win was Ryder Downey who made the BR. Being pushed or getting a pitch count might be great for him. Let me be clear, Id love nothing more than Dee to clearly claim the spot and meet MM in the finals next year but I would equally love for Alex to do that or any Cowboy in the room. If we're to win another team title we need points and I give zero F's about whos name they call out in orange.
Best man wins. Best wrestler competes. I’ve beat this horse to death and then some, but Dee has all the talent in the world and if he can keep his mentals right the sky is the limit for him. I hope competing with Facundo lights a fire under his rear end and brings out the best of him.

I was mostly joking in that last comment. And to be clear I don’t have any direct sources but several on this board do so I was just repeating what they said.
