Taking my sons fishing this weekend and not to familiar with Southern Indiana as I was born and raised in London, Ky. Anyone know of a good catfishing spot so they can catch some fish? Thanks
I was gonna say close to the Casino boatCheck the personals on Craigslist?![]()
Yup the Ohio has huge Catfish in them, but not sure I’d eat them. Ohio is a little iffy as far as being clean. If you mean southwestern In near Evansville it's pretty good catfishing right in the Ohio River. But if the river is not your thing there's Bluegrass Fish and Wildlife Area in Chandler In. Or Hovey Lake over by Mt Vernon.
Yeah. They won’t let restaurants serve them now. Have to be farm raised to serve in restaurants.Yup the Ohio has huge Catfish in them, but not sure I’d eat them. Ohio is a little iffy as far as being clean.
Yeah I’m right on the river and it’s long been known around Louisville that the Ohio is a no go for eating fish. They used to have a sign up in the dock areas. I belive it was keep it under a certain weight per year to avoid some toxin in the water.Yeah. They won’t let restaurants serve them now. Have to be farm raised to serve in restaurants.
No restrictions on frying them up for personal use though.
I’m not a fisherman. I asked some friends that are about the southern In area.
Hello 812 neighbor. My grandmother swore by chicken livers, spark plug as a sinker, and a Zebco 202….she could cast that thing 100 yards.
I live in the 775 now…812 is better!Hello 812 neighbor.
It's a little off the beaten path but there's also Patoka Lake, more or less E/NE of Jasper. I've never fished there so I can't vouch for how good of a place it is to fish or not.If you mean southwestern In near Evansville it's pretty good catfishing right in the Ohio River. Ohio River with live Shad, shiners, creek chubs, or something of that sort. Stay away from pay lakes, totally against those places!!
When I was in high school and college, I made my money selling Diamond pay lake catfish, that were grain fed with Parina catfish food, and I couldn't sell a river fish, after people ate the grain fed. I took them to bars and grocery stores, and sold a lot of fish. My dad and his best friend, would buy two tickets, and bring home 32 cats that were 5 to 6 lb, two or three times every week. We made our own bait with hamburger, oats, garlic, and the stinkiest blood bait he could buy.
We fished below Ky and Barkley, with the yellowtail, when we could get them, but my dad was great with a throw net, and go right in the boils, to the rocks, and get his live bait, of Shad, skipjack, or his favorite yellowtail. He had a 55 gal plastic barrel cut to about 3/4, and arator pump.
I just got back from catching a bunch of these![]()
A “little iffy” might be the understatement of the century F2M. LolYup the Ohio has huge Catfish in them, but not sure I’d eat them. Ohio is a little iffy as far as being clean.
