SEYKO IS A ******* MORON WHO KNOWS NOTHING
No need to to shout my man, just relaying what he said he heard. That’s what you do on a discussion forum.

Anyhow we know what he weighed in at and seems like it shouldn’t be dismissed. Even if he is very young with a big frame that can quickly grow out of a weight. But certainly seems possible he could make 157 next year.

That said I looked at his profile and these were his weight classes in HS
2023 - 113
2024 - 138
2025 - 150
2026 - 165

Corby said James weighed in at 162 yesterday and 161 at the open. Seems like 157 could be in the cards
And he won at 156 (71kg) in August. Barring a summer growth spurt, doesn't appear like he would have a Bouzakis-esque cut, but who knows?

How crazy is it that if Duke and James can't make 157, and Kasak isn't healthy, that the possible 4th option at 157 (Sealey) is a likely high AA? The talent at 157-197 is insane.

Desmond is another kid likely negatively impacted this year. He was the presumed starter at 141, with Ono doing his stint at 133. I think it's pretty reasonable to assume Blaze (or Ono) now beats Desmond for the 141 spot this year,

This also means instead of redshirting while staying close to 133 weight wise for the following year, Blaze may have to gain good weight for 141, which might make it pretty challenging to get back to 133 the following, so Luke probably moves up in two years. Maybe he would have anyway.

Could Ono target 141 instead now, and Blaze goes again at 133? Ono made the most sense at 133 before 5 for 5, but after, maybe not. What a mess.

Back to Desmond, his only path might be to burn a year this year, and grow into a 149 to replace SVN, and only get 3 years. If he doesn't wrestle this year, portal or not, that is what he is stuck with everywhere.

Maybe Cael can pull his Zen magic and get complete hammers like PJ, Marcus, and James to be satisfied with wrestling only 4 years. That's a tough ask, but it's the path that keeps team harmony somewhat intact. Who knows, if Cael were to say , 'we sit all kids 1 year no matter what', maybe that would work, but then any injury lurks like goblin waiting to knock a kid down to a 3 year career.

There is no doubt the OSU, tOSU, VT, Iowa vultures will be circling the portal next cycle with a keen eye on our squad. Wouldn't it suck, if some day in the future we lose a team championship by a point or two and the team that beats us had a few of our cast offs to fill gaps on their roster. Kids that only left because of the negative impact of 5 for 5. Indirectly our recruiting becomes a crutch for other teams. I expect not as much, but from time to time it will work in the other direction.

Sorry, 5 for 4 is much better.
5 for 5 train has left the station. We appreciate all the machinations that you have laid out, but, 5 for 4 ain’t happening. We have the very best coaching staff and greatest wrestling tradition (yeah … I said it). 5 for 5 is gonna downsides and unintended consequences, but, our staff is at least as well prepared to make the necessary adaptations as anyone else out there.

It’s been more than a few years since I was a student at college but does it now take more than 4 years to complete an undergraduate degree? I would think - but do not know - that student/athletes are usually on campus year round. It would seem to me that taking a class or two during the summer while continuing training for an upcoming season would accelerate the athlete’s path to a degree, alleviating the need to remain in school beyond 4 years. I loved my time on campus in State College but there is a time to move on.
My oldest daughter graduated from college in 3 years by doing exactly what you mentioned. She took courses in summer and typically about 17-8 credits a semester.

I would be shocked if James made any hard cuts for HS or for U20s. Why would he need to when he's the best wrestler that steps on the mat by a mile in those matches? He was wrestling 160-162 basically.

For college, I think with a good nutrition system and plan, he can manage 157 for a season. I mean either do that or try to win 174 undersized (and potentially go against PJ for that) or he's redshirting and missing a year. The returning Hodge winner and one of the greatest of all time is our 165.

Carter’s 5th generated less celebration than I anticipated. Now 2 years on … we don’t hear about his 5th much. I think as time goes by, fans and commentators will look back, reflect, and the legend will grow; especially if someone else goes for a 5th. In time he will sit on Mt. Rushmore.
Carter ran the gauntlet in the 2024, having to go thru two returning National Champions on one leg. Probably one of the most impressive PSU wrestling feats ever. Carter was a warrior, finishing that season the way he did.

Completely mindfcked the rest of the bracket. Neither Griffith or Lewis went after him very hard.

Most impressive full run we've ever seen at NCAAs.

You really think this is the most impressive run ever, I personally find Cory Clark’s run more impressive. I find that years 133 field just as impressive and on one shoulder .

I loved Carter’s raising Dan Monthly’s hand in appreciation…

… but not nearly as fun to watch as Clark’s lateral drop of Brands!

I do. He was completely railroaded in the seeds and had to beat 2 returning champs on a bum leg, just to get to the finals.

And if you watch those matches, those guys didn't wrestle like he had a bum leg, like they saw a chink in the armor. They were legit scared to push a pace/attack.

So just what he was able to do mentally is what impressed me. Clark's run is an example of some hardcore grit and one of my favorite runs, (as is cody brewer, Troy Nickerson, Brent Metcalf, Bo Nickal, Zain, DT, all for different reasons)

Nolf's championship on one good leg was pretty good, too.

Your first sentence really describes Carter’s unusual game. Watching from the outside, you wonder why opponents seem intimidated by him. Keckeisen said his mind went to places that told him it was impossible a few times to beat Carter in his post NCAA interview and Keckeisen is as much of a carefree and cool wrestlers there are.

Carter’s mind games were cringey but it seemed they definitely threw off his opponents. That his constant forward pressure and hand control. McEnelly said on Baschamania when asked to compare Carter and Parker that Carter isn’t remotely dynamic but he’s so in your face it throws you off from whatever you planned to do going into the match.
