I see Chloe as a significantly better all-around player in field vision/feeding, dodging, riding, and shooting. But MT is likely more valuable to her team.
MT makes me wish we played some zone to see how MT would fare against such from us. With our keeper qual’s I wish we had developed a zone option this year.

^how do you know we haven’t ?
You’re right, I don’t know for certain. But if it were going to be seen next weekend, we probably would have seen it run SOME other time. As it is, other the. In penalty situations, do you recall a zone since 2013? I don’t but would be pleased to hear of any inkling of our having worked in it or shown it in a game. Seriously. I’d appreciate any news to me (not the first time!)! Maybe one who can recall our having done so can refresh my knowledge/recall. For example, had we run a backer zone in 2013 or prior couple years when we successfully ran the backer zone in the final four? Otherwise, how do you see the odds of seeing a zone?

and otherwise speaking, I do think Stanford’s eventual move to an ISO-heavy offense is great practice for what we’ll see Fri and I hope Sunday next weekend.

Well, we have to worry about Maryland first. I do not want to get ahead of them. Maryland use to be in the ACC and they have won the most NCAA Championships than any team in the Final Four. We all know that historically there have always been some great battles with them and this game coming up is no different. I expect a tough, gritty, grand it out type of game. We all know that Maryland should have beaten NW the first time that they played but it was clearly obvious that the referees determined the outcome of that game. NW is playing a weaker opponent IMO, they are playing in their backyard which does not help. I expect them to get all of the calls. I expect home cooking from the referees, etc. Chloe Humphrey is just as important to our team as MT is to Northwestern. Someone posted that they thought MT might be slightly more important to her team than Chloe is to our team. I do not buy that statement.

Yes, I see MT as more important to NW. I think NW’s offense is more geared to MT in Iso situations than ours is centered on CH.

Thanks for posting the tracker for us. Wow, people from good teams are already in the portal. The season is not over yet.

Former CUSE defender Lexi Reber is transferring to UNC.

Was a star recruit who started her freshman year before getting injured. Didn't see the field much since.

She's primarily a 1 v 1 defender and fell out of favor as CUSE leaned more into the zone. Solid pickup

On paper we have some holes to fill on our defense next year so this is good news.

How many top 20 teams still play 1 v 1 defense like us? It cant be many...

How do we match up with the Terps? I only recently saw them play. Thanks.
Maryland is one of the few schools that plays man defense, which will be a change and advantange for UNC after a healthy dose of zone from Clemson, Stanford and Syracuse. As annoying as the Zone is..i actually think it's the best way to defend this UNC offense. Earlier season games vs CUSE and Clemson they really clogged the passing lanes and had active sticks that knocked down a decent amount of passes. Took UNC some time to solve it

Maryland has a good offense by committee. No elite attackers. Kori Edmondson is a spark plug in midfield. She's a north to south middie who'll look to drive to the cage first, pass second and has elite speed. Kayla Gilmore is a great 2 way middie that does everything for them, including taking most of the draws. She's tall and athletic, causes turnovers and plays great defense. Doesn't score often but she's capable when necessary.

They are are in the same tier as the Michigans and Stanfords of the world so definitely not the Maryland of old but can give UNC a tough game and shouldn't be taken lightly.

I like UNC's attackers 1 v 1 dodging ability vs their defense. Patillo, Osburn, Levy and Chloe are all elite dodgers. I expect to see a few iso set plays for Chloe where she can take on her defender and go to goal or dish it out similar to the Florida final Four game from last year (this will not be that lopsided of a game)

Key will be to start fast and get out ahead of them. They don't have the offense to keep up and it'll add pressure on them and kill confidence. No one can go on 3 to 4 goal runs in 1 or 2 minutes quite like UNC and teams can't really prepare for that

This used to be the premiere rivalry in the sport before Cathy Reese decided to start ducking UNC.. for about 6 years now. Maybe this will re-ignite the rivalry

Thanks for the info on Maryland, I recall playing them in the past. I didn’t know why. I follow our lacrosse teams & recall having some tough games vs the zone. Clemson gave us fits earlier at their place & their goalie was superb.
I remember the Terps being in the ACC & am not fond of that school at all.
Go Heels!
