He has leverage because he could go pro. That contract means nothing if UK wants to keep him.Thanks. Then he has no leverage. He's either going pro or coming back to UK for whatever his contract states.
He has leverage because he could go pro. That contract means nothing if UK wants to keep him.Thanks. Then he has no leverage. He's either going pro or coming back to UK for whatever his contract states.
He's already trying to go pro. That's his goal. How is that leverage? He's already doing that.He has leverage because he could go pro. That contract means nothing if UK wants to keep him.
Well, the simple answer is Pope would. Think about it -- if Moreno signed for below market value. Then, he gets a suitable NBA offer, he'll be incentivized to go to the league. Pope is not going to want his freshman center to be gone without a fight. Naturally, you rip up the contract and get something better for both sides at that point. So did he sign a contract?
I ask because if he did he really can't leverage anything unless Pope is ok with it also right? He can't enter the transfer portal. He really can't even negotiate unless Pope wants to right? Obviously I'm sure Pope would. But if he decided not to then I'm not sure anybody can leverage a contract that's already been signed
You're overthinking it. Moreno signing a contract doesn't mean UK AND MORENO can't agree to renegotiate terms now that Moreno could go pro. It takes both parties to agree to it and guess what --- if Moreno gets a good enough offer, Kentucky isn't going to stand idly by. I'd bet big money that Moreno is back in blue regardless next year. He's already trying to go pro. That's his goal. How is that leverage? He's already doing that.
And I'm not asking in a smart tone. I'm seriously asking. What is he leveraging?
He already signed a contract for if he doesn't go pro. I'm confused admittedly.
“Coach, I think I’d like to come back to UK and I know we signed a contract but to not go pro I’m going to need a little more money”.He's already trying to go pro. That's his goal. How is that leverage. He's already doing that.
I get that and understand Pope would work with him. But I don't see Moreno doing any of that. I don't think there's any type of leverage involved. I think if he gets a draft promise he's gone point blank. I'm sure he wants to be in the NBA. Just my opinion tho. I don't think he's making this decision based off a couple .million here or there.Well, the simple answer is Pope would. Think about it -- if Moreno signed for below market value. Well i disagree.I get that and understand Pope would work with him. But I don't see Moreno doing any of that. I don't think there's any type of leverage involved. Understandable I reckon. So what I'm saying is he doesn't really have leverage unless Pope grants it. It's a Pope decision. I for one think Pope went and got the Washington center for a reason.“Coach, I think I’d like to come back to UK and I know we signed a contract but to not go pro I’m going to need a little more money”.
If UK really wants him back then he’s leveraged his position for a little more money. Now if UK didn’t care if he came back, then yes he has no leverage.
but they do want him back.
Agreed and we will know very soonWell i disagree.
It isn't crazy to think Moreno would think it'd be to his own advantage to get even more money now for his services at UK, then bet on himself to be a lottery pick next year in a weaker draft. We will just have to watch it play out, I guess.
Yes and no. I’m fairly certain if not for Al Horford and Joachim Noah Billy Donovan would almost certainly be just one more coach who was “good enough for SEC not good enough for Kentucky.”If a coaching career comes down to one player coming back or not, it's pretty much already over.
Well that's two players lol. I'm only kiddingYes and no. I’m fairly certain if not for Al Horford and Joachim Noah Billy Donovan would almost certainly be just one more coach who was “good enough for SEC not good enough for Kentucky.”
I never said he wants to. Just that he’s in a position to. Leverage means to use something to maximize your advantage. If Pope really wants him back, MM has the leverage. Not Pope.Understandable I reckon. So what I'm saying is he doesn't really have leverage unless Pope grants it. It's a Pope decision. I for one think Pope went and got the Washington center for a reason.
If he already signed for less than he's worth y'all are saying he wants to leverage more money now because he might go pro? He already signed for less money than he's worth. These are big contracts to just sign and then change your mind. I don't think he has much leverage just because a couple draft boards have him getting drafted .
But none of this really matters because he's gone. He wants to go pro. I don't think he wants to negotiate his contract to come back to UK. But I don't know. He just doesn't seem like the type of person to go back on his word. Especially if what the whole thing in the first place with Jeff is about. "He wants to play for Pope "
That’s why I said yes and no and not just no. Although taking away either one of them might have to make the difference, it’s just hard to say which one if it comes down to one.Well that's two players lol. I'm only kidding
I get it and I'm not trying to go against you. This all stems from the back and forth I had with Jeff and I was just trying to get a better understanding of the contract situation.I never said he wants to. Just that he’s in a position to. Leverage means to use something to maximize your advantage. If Pope really wants him back, MM has the leverage. Not Pope.
But everyone has stated that he already signed for less than he knew he was worth. Why all of a sudden would he want what he's worth?it's very simple
He will be a 1st round pick, so he can tell UK, things have changed and my value has increased. If you want me to come back to UK it will have to be for more than we negotiated, or else I'm staying in the draft.
That is called leverage. He has a lot of it since UK needs him to come back
But everyone has stated that he already signed for less than he knew he was worth. Why all of a sudden would he want what he's worth?
I mean obviously anybody wants what their worth but I'm not the one saying he took less money to come back and play for Pope because he loves Pope so much.
What y'all are saying makes 100% complete sense to me if he just signed a contract. But when y'all say he signed a contract for less than he's worth it's confusing to say he now has leverage because he wants what he's worth. And ik y'all might not of been the ones to say that but Jeff did for three days.
Moreno can say that. But when you sign a contract you don't have much say so. Matter of fact you have zero leverage. You have two choices. Come back to college or go pro.Moreno: "if you want me to come back it will be for more money than we negotiated"
what part do you not understand?
that is leverage, unless Pope doesn't want him, but we all know Pope very much needs him
Okay.I get it and I'm not trying to go against you. This all stems from the back and forth I had with Jeff and I was just trying to get a better understanding of the contract situation.
But if his contract is signed then I just don't see where the leverage comes in. He either goes pro or goes back to college. I understand what leverage is. Would have been smart to use the exact scenario you gave me before he signed a contract because he's locked in. Pope doesn't have to do anything but sit there and see if he's going pro or not. Obviously if he wants him to come back he can allow negotiations but once again it's all up to Pope and what Pope wants to do.
Again I think the Washington center came here to start in his 7th year of college. Not sit behind Moreno.
But I appreciate your breakdown and opinion. Thanks for being able to disagree and still have common sense.
Right. You have to use leverage before you sign a contract. It's pretty simple. You don't sign a contract then hit somebody with negotiations. He goes pro or comes back for whatever Pope says. Pope has all the leverage. See I can say my opinion and it actually makes sense that's why I would expect a answer like ok because there's nothing else to say.Okay.
WTF - Moreno will play 10 + years in the NBA .I like Moreno and want him back, but Garrison outplayed him easily the last 6 or more games. I can't see this being the deal breaker of next season.
You truly are one of the dumbest people I’ve ever had a back and forth with. Won’t happen again.Right. You have to use leverage before you sign a contract. It's pretty simple. You don't sign a contract then hit somebody with negotiations. He goes pro or comes back for whatever Pope says. Pope has all the leverage. See I can say my opinion and it actually makes sense that's why I would expect a answer like ok because there's nothing else to say.
Ok. No leverage. Contract has been signed. He's going pro anyway so it don't matter.
Yea Moreno has a brighter future but that's the same reason I say the Washington center is better for Kentucky. It's about next year. What can they do for UK. Not what will Moreno be doing for the knicks I'm ten years.WTF - Moreno will play 10 + years in the NBA .
Garrison will play in Turkey & China if he’s healthy & lucky
You truly are one of the dumbest people I’ve ever had a back and forth with. Won’t happen again.
You’re way overthinking this my friend. He’s there to get advice, and see what he needs to work on to become a high draft pick when he’s ready. He’s not ready for NBA big men!! Not Close. He already signed a return deal to come back to Kentucky so he’s not going anywhere besides Kentucky. He’ll be on campus with the rest of the team in a few weeks. What are we supposed to make of Moreno skipping 5-on-5 scrimmages at the NBA Combine? Life is all about leverage, and this is a multi-million dollar leverage game. Mark Pope must thread the needle over the next two weeks before Moreno must make a final decision. “The problem is, if you actually get tough with him and draw a line, and he says, ‘All right, if that’s the way you want to be, I’ll just stay in the draft.’ You are maybe ending your coaching career at your alma mater,” said Gary Parrish.
“As crazy as it sounds, this could be the key to Pope getting a year four or never getting a year four, and so that makes it a really delicate situation. Where, if I’m being honest, I think if I’m Kentucky, I just got to sit back and wait, be as kind and as patient, and make sure when it’s time we’re going to put so much money on the table, he can’t say no to us, because they need him now more than they needed him on the day the season ended. They need him now, because they’ve missed on so much other stuff.”

Parrish and Norlander Believe Malachi Moreno is Returning to Kentucky
The CBS Sports aren't buying the NBA Combine buzz. They believe Moreno and Momcilovic will play college basketball next season.www.on3.com
Moreno will get a lot of commercial deals & can sell signed merchandiseWell, the simple answer is Pope would. Think about it -- if Moreno signed for below market value. I will be anxious to see what this team looks like.preseason rankings

With those two we’re still 25-30 range, imo. We just don’t have enough talent overall to be highly ranked. We can always climb the ladder during the season if they show signs of improvement. Pope missed on too many talented players. We’ll just have to work with what we got.Is this a top 10 roster if we retain Moreno and add Momsilivic? Where will we be in the preseason rankings?
I’m sure it’s the same as everyone who’s there. The 27th or 28th is the last day I believe, so we’ll know something before or right after. I’d say he’ll stick it out till the end probably but he’s still playing for Kentucky next season. lol. If not, he got some terrible advice from someone he trusted. When is his deadline to decide?
Pope's time here is over in less than a year. Worst UK coach in our history. What are we supposed to make of Moreno skipping 5-on-5 scrimmages at the NBA Combine? I think we are probably 15-20 if we get those two but admittedly my opinion is of no more value than yours is on this. It is just a guess at this point. Let's just hope we end up with them and get to find out. I feel like we probably have better odds on Moreno than we do Momcilovic. With those two we’re still 25-30 range, imo. You’re probably closer, I’m just trying to be more realistic these days. We’re no doubt a better team with those two if it works out, I still think we could use more star power, but here we are. Hopefully Wilkins is going to be that superstar we need, so we may not be as far away as I think, we definitely need a few guys to really improve and step up big this season. I’d love to feel better about the roster, but I’ll support them with everything no matter what.I think we are probably 15-20 if we get those two but admittedly my opinion is of no more value than yours is on this. My eyesight is going. I thougt that said Maroni's revenge. He's already trying to go pro. That's his goal. How is that leverage? He's already doing that.

Sorry my Wildcat brother. MM has zero leverage. I mean he signed a contract after all. Lol The contract is real damnit even though it is contingent on MM going to the NBA. MM has ZERO leverage.Moreno: "if you want me to come back it will be for more money than we negotiated"
