Build our freestyle fanbase

If Cowboy RTC wants to build the freestyle fanbase I humbly propose some ideas for solving the common problems I've encountered following freestyle.

1. Do some educational videos on the rules. We know the differences from folkstyle, but seeing them demonstrated would be really helpful. Yes I know there are demos on Youtube but having it come from our coaches and RTC would be super cool and build hype.
2. Help us with the scheduling, who's competing from our RTC, how to watch, and what the stakes are. This information is de-centralized - you can find it all, but you have to dig on Flo and USAW and forums and social media and news media to piece it all together. Only die-hard fans are able and willing to commit to this process... and even then it's very easy to miss an event or a start time or a bracket link and have to go to forums and beg for answers.
3. Figure out a consistent way to push this information out on official/traditional channels. In my view it should be as easy to know about a Cowboy RTC freestyle event as it is a Cowboy Wrestling dual. Social media is great for what it is, but there is a movement building of people breaking the habit of being on it every day... need to keep reaching those folks.
4. None of this is a criticism so I hope nobody takes it that way. My impression is that these issues are common across freestyle fanbases. Cowboy RTC could build only our fanbase AND provide a resource for other freestyle fans that share these frustrations.... in turn building our fanbase even more AND support for freestyle athletes in general. We've already reimagined our social media to fantastic effect, and I think it would not be a huge lift to figure this one out too.

Anyways just brainstorming! Happy Thursday y'all

No takers?

I was on Facebook and came across a bunch of Stilly Boys posts that had great info. They put a lot of work into those! Is it intentional to publish those mainly through social media?

I think that’s been the showing the best metrics?

Most casual Wrestling fans don’t care about freestyle, just results. I honestly don’t enjoy it as much.

Mostly, it has to do with the lack of team aspect imo. We get to see duals with storylines and rivalries. In freestyle, it’s all tournament and takes the weekend up.

I generally don’t like freestyle. In fact, I’d probably stop following college wrestling if they switched from folk to free (I don’t think they ever will). That being said, having guys like Wyatt, Dean, Amine, Jax, and Landon that are/were successful at osu and at cowboy rtc to pursue fee style may help increase fan interest. I watched all osu us open and wtt matches and that led me to have all finals matches of both tournaments on while I worked. I still don’t like it nearly as much as folk but I was really interested to see Carr James, for example. And of course stopped all work to watch Jax.

My biggest complaint about national freestyle is the difficulty in knowing whos up next or when your guy is likely to wrestle. This should not be a hard problem to solve but USA wrestling doesn’t give two *****

Yeah but why not also publish it outside of social media. I watched the Stilly Boys clips and got a ton of insight. Only, it was after WTT ended because I don’t scroll every day.

I think folks WOULD enjoy it with a little more information. Every problem with following freestyle is a low hanging fruit. I think our media team could do a great job.

...as Cowboys increase in free style entries, a Cowboy to watch in summer is way better than none at all...just consider they are just getting ready for 2028!.........

This was my first year really caring about freestyle, first year coaching girls only. Since they have to care more about freestyle, I did too. Girls wrestling in college is freestyle. Personally, folkstyle is still my favorite. Some of the scoring methods in freestyle really bother me, exposure being one of them (what is and what isn't exposure)
