I think most fans are worried about the defensive line , not the offensive line

Only myslinski and dotzler are seniors.
Could be a good group for next 2 seasons.
There is some good young talent. Kade & prossibly Lauck could be gone to the NFL. Then Dotzler being a senior.

We have recruited & developed well the last 5 years. It should be almost a re-load every year.... As long as we do not lose them early to the NFL...

That is what I am ferventl hoping as well: that it will be a reload every year. It is a foregone conclusion that we will be losing a lot of guys prematurely to the NFL. Sometimes they surprise me and stay, but the more likely path is for them to leave early an we have to reload. but it does appear that our recruiting, incoming transfers, and develoopment in recent years is paying off. I am pretty excited about guys like Parliament, Whitters, Allgeyer, wilson, et cetera. I really do hope the O-line can be consistently good for years to come for these aforementioned reasons.

I loved how Dunker said if he had another year of eligibility he would be back at Iowa!!! 🤩

On defense I've been hoping for Fitzgibbon to step up. He's big, from the Chicago area, but a RS freshman. Has to learn reads and reactions like all young players at the position.
Listed as 6'3" 265, but I assume his weight is from last year. Regardless, he's definitely strong as all hell if he's breaking lifting records at his age and lack of overall weight (as far as a DT goes).

It would be great if he could earn some playing time and show some potential.

Last weight I saw was 280 but I can't promise accuracy. Still, he's been on campus for a year. A lot of learning to do. But if he's ahead of schedule, that would be a very good thing.

I don't think Hawkeyesports has updated the weights, so the 280 you saw is probably much closer. I'm just so impressed at the fact a redshirt freshman can break a DT squat record.

yes, I am really hoping that young Mr. Fitzgibbon can be our hero, our breakout player on defense this year. While I am far from being an expert on anything that happens on Saturday afternoons, the distinct feeling I am getting from this message board is that the D-line, and the tackles more specifically, could well be the weak link to the defense this year. The fact that he set that squat record (and as a freshman, to boot) gives me hope.

Yeah, DT is a big question mark. An opportunity for guys who didn't play much last year.

Phil understands team D. He'll bring the tackles along.

Helps to have ends that should be stout against the run, and athletic backers.

Also, could be something positive brewing at DT, that I will refrain from detailing, at the moment.

But yeah, a couple guys are going to have to step up

Regarding something positive brewing at DT, I would if Graves would come back under the 5 to play 5 ruling?

Setting the squat record is no small feat! Especially for a freshman. Love it!
Fitzgibbon's offer list is a good one. That is a high indicator for myself, vs stars or rankings.

If I had to guess. That'd be my totally uninformed guess.
6’4” 320 sure would be welcomed at the DT position for a change. Not sure if we’ve ever had a DT that big in the KF era.

A few. Carl Davis comes right to mind. He started out bigger then that and I think they had him drop a few. I think Black was also in that range

On Hawkeyesports, Davis was listed as 6'5" 315 as a senior. Black was listed at 6'5" 317

Good find. I think Davis was closer to 340 at one time and when he got serious, he dropped about 20 lbs to be able to play more snaps. Around his junior season.
