I watched it last night. It was pretty good. [To make this Mississippi State related: The Mayor of Natchez is a Bulldog.]

Haven't seen it yet but will watch.

We must all feel sufficiently bad about ourselves for these things that happened 100+ years before we were born..

Feeling bad is not necessary. Pretending that 100s of years of mistreatment has no ripple effects today so one can feel good about themselves not caring about any of those ripple effects, and most importantly standing staunchly against any potential help along those lines is a choice too...

People getting married and having parties at former slave plantations has always been so bizarre to me. Thanks for the doc recommendation OP

How about standing and getting married at the alter of a church, where a dead body lay in a coffin for a funeral recently?

Maybe it signifies your status as a single person is now dead?

You don't have to feel bad. Just don't pretend like the bad things didn't happen or they weren't that bad.

I will watch it. History is important to know. You need to take it as a bunch of facts that there is nothing you can do to change them. You can only not do those thigs that were wrong. You can't let history cripple today. We can't punish a child for their father's actions.

When a stone is thrown into a lake yes it causes a ripple but it dies out. That anyone is actually effected by things that happened all those years ago is nuts. To think you deserve money because of something that happened to your great grandpa is nuts. To be told that those things in history makes you less or hinders your ability to succeed is heinous. My family was concerned in 1978 when I came here. Trust me Mississippi is not what it used to be.

Weird but pretty

I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s been to a wedding and reception at a plantation…

Dan is as good of a person as you will ever meet. He played piano for my FIL funeral in 2021, but I knew from years earlier as Mayor of Crystal Springs and a former candidate for governor.
That Dan would give this bunch of gubernatorial candidates a run for their money!

I was in the same fraternity as Dan, but he was gone by the time I got there. I've met and talked to him a number of occasions over the years, though I admit, I didn't realize he had moved to Natchez and become mayor there. Super nice guy. I can see how he became mayor in a place like Natchez.

At this point, it’s mathematically great-great at best and, given birth rates, 3Gs or 4Gs. Time to move along. I’ll be taking a shower in 3 hours to go to work just as I have for 20 years. Meanwhile, others will be headed to Wal-Mart at noon in pajama pants. If you want to talk about recent theft, let’s talk about our tax dollars.

Agreed. It’s easier for some to make excuses. Unless, one’s family has maintained royalty status for 200+ years, I’m sure someone has had to overcome circumstances to get to where they are. Best country on earth to improve your situation.

Both grandparents on my mother's side came from circumstances that would make what many consider to be "poverty" in this day and age look like life in the British aristocracy. "Not having a pot to piss in" is a common idiom around here for a reason.

This is exceptionally vague. Can you describe more about what “help” means? Personally, what is your favorite vessel for helping?
