Always Loved the theme song.

Help me remember. Was Hawaii 5 0 on the same night as The Wild Wild West? Those two programs were by far my favorites.
Wo Fat episodes were always fun. I am glad others remember how good he was. Khigh Dhiegh is a name long forgotten, but it should be remembered.
As for Wild, Wild, West, my favorite character actor of all time, Michael Dunn, was another great evil recurring character. He died far too young.

Same with Zulu as Kono.In the credits "Kam Fong as Chin Ho" Classic.
Magnum is another show that had a great theme song along with The Rockford Files. Mike Post was a musical genius; he was able to capture the ethos of a show in a few minutes.I not only loved the opening song but loved the opening credits as they showed Hawaii and had a real feel.
I was not in Hawaii when Hawaii 50 was on the air but was there when Magnum PI was being filmed. I was amazed how little was filmed in Hawaii. The crew would show up in early Aug. and film a lot of location shots and some outdoors shots with stand-ins on distance shots. Then the stars would come in for about a month in late Aug and early Sep and film outside shots with the actors. The majority of the indoor scenes were filmed back in LA.
As we got to know the roads on Oahu we could tell that the show would show someone driving on one road and then to another and knew the roads did not link. Also Magnum would never be caught in traffic.
While I was in Hawaii both Jack Lord and James MacArthur lived in Hawaii. I got to meet Jack Lord.
He died far too young. He was a great talent.
Read his Wiki profile. He had an incredible family background.
I agree about the reboot; I thought that it was pretty good, and the scenery was unmatched. The 5-0 reboot I felt was quite good as well, better than most dreck on TV while offering visual porn of paradise.
I was a little young for the original, but saw many in reruns. Obviously the Wo Fat episodes and storylines were top notch, but I also remember several episodes where the villains were a mob family named Vashon. McGarrett took out the son, then the father (played by Harold Gould), then the grandfather in three consecutive episodes. The fourth episode was either later the same season or perhaps the next season when the jailed father (Gould) tried framing McGarrett for something or other in hopes he could be jailed and then revenge would be taken.
