Same things they said about Duncan early in his career. He was not very athletic or bouncy…and showed no emotions. You are helping me build my case! Thanks!
I'm not going against you man. I don't attack people on here. I think Moreno is a pro. Actually Moreno is gone. Won't be a Cat next year. Do you think the Washington big came here to be Morenos back up? Hell no. Moreno gone.

I don’t know who needs to hear this, but Malachi Moreno isn’t just ‘a promising big.’
He’s literally the closest thing college basketball has seen to young Tim Duncan since Tim Duncan himself.

Watch the tape.
Not the highlight reels…the actual possessions.
The footwork? Duncan.
The timing? Duncan.
The way he blocks shots WITHOUT LEAVING HIS FEET LIKE A GROWN MAN WHO UNDERSTANDS GEOMETRY?
That’s Duncan‑core behavior.

Moreno has that same ‘I’m not jumping, I’m just going to erase your shot because I understand angles better than your math teacher’ energy.
He’s got the soft touch, the patience, the rebounding instincts, the calmness, the ‘I’m going to casually dominate you without changing my facial expression’ vibe.

And the best part?
He’s doing this as a FRESHMAN in the SEC.
Duncan didn’t even start cooking people until later at Wake Forest.
Moreno is already out here looking like he’s calculating trajectories in real time like a 7‑foot astrophysicist.

Except that pretty much nobody was saying that about Duncan then; people were wowed by his potential. Nobody worried about the bland personality because of what he did on the court. Jerry West is on record saying he'd have taken Duncan #1 after his freshman year.

Actually, Duncan was pretty good as a FR at WF. A big better than Moreno.
Duncan averaged (Pt, Reb, Blk) 9.8, 9.6, 3.8 (those were also his per30min stats, since averaged 30.2mpg)

Moreno's FR per30min stats were: 10.3, 8.4, 2.0

Davis was: 13.3, 9.7, 4.4
& Noel was: 9.8, 8.9, 4.2

I think Moreno will be good, I think next year he could be 2nd team all-SEC. I think he could be an AA as a JR, but I think he will leave after Soph yr.

If you just looked at the stats you'd think MM wasn't far behind Duncan as a freshman. But the stats are deceiving; all anybody had to do was watch Duncan play one time and it was so obvious that he had IT.

Duncan had the Hakeem Olajuwon and later Anthony Davis thing- he had superb footwork and timing and covered short spaces incredibly well. His block and rebound numbers were big right from the start because if a 6'11" guy is consistently the first one off the floor, he's going to get a ton of rebounds and blocks without having to touch to the top of the square to do it.

If he’s half of what Tim Duncan was, he’ll be a lottery pick this year. You know there wasn’t this feeling out processed that there was that or else Tim Duncan wouldn’t have made it past his freshman year. And I think it’s ridiculous to even think of a comparison like that I’m not saying Moreno’s bad he may have the upside of a possible All-Star but Tim Duncan is one of the best players ever so let’s get this crap right man stop talking so much ridiculousness

I see Moreno as somewhere between Tim Duncan and most of the fan base’s perception.
I believe he will be on some all-SEC teams next season.

If Duncan was considered the NBA DRAFT #1 pick at the end of his freshman year…than it had to be a HORRIBLE CLASS!

Moreno’s freshman season compares shockingly well when you adjust for minutes & role. Moreno wasn’t a day 1 starter.

Tim Duncan — Wake Forest (1993–94)
• PPG: 9.8
• RPG: 9.6
• BPG: 3.8
• FG%: 54.5%
• FT%: 74.5%
• Minutes: 30.2 MPG
• Games: 33
• Accolades: ACC All‑Freshman Team

Malachi Moreno — Kentucky (2025–26)
• PPG: 7.8
• RPG: 6.3
• APG: 1.8
• BPG: 1.5
• FG%: 58.2%
• FT%: 69.8%
• Minutes: 22.6 MPG
• Games: 36
• Accolades: SEC All‑Freshman Team
