I have a friend who is my age who went through National Guard basic training back in 2018 (so he'd have been 31) and had kids who were rising seniors in High School in training with him. He said the amount of homophobic slurs that were spewing forth from them was very surprising and he had to remind them that it wasn't cool anymore.
